Me: Under the Milky Way by The Church.

On Edit: Post the lyrics if you can.

Sometimes when this place gets kind of empty

Sound of their breath fades with the light

I think about the loveless fascination

Under the Milky Way tonight

Lower the curtain down on Memphis

Lower the curtain down all right

I got no time for private consultation

Under the Milky Way tonight

CHORUS:

Wish I knew what you were looking for

Might have known what you would find

Wish I knew what you were looking for

Might have known what you would find

And it's something quite peculiar

Something shimmering and white

Leads you here despite your destination

Under the Milky Way tonight

CHORUS

Under the Milky way tonight..

Under the Milky Way tonight...

1. "Defying Gravity," from the Wicked soundtrack.
I'm a Broadway musical freak.

GLINDA
(spoken) Elphaba - why couldn't you have stayed calm for
once, instead of flying off the handle!
(sung) I hope you're happy!
I hope you're happy now
I hope you're happy how you
Hurt your cause forever
I hope you think you're clever!

ELPHABA
I hope you're happy
I hope you're happy, too
I hope you're proud how you
Would grovel in submission
To feed your own ambition

BOTH
So though I can't imagine how
I hope you're happy right now

GLINDA
(spoken) Elphie, listen to me. Just say you're sorry:
(sung) You can still be with the Wizard
What you've worked and waited for
You can have all you ever wanted:

ELPHABA
(spoken) I know:
(sung) But I don't want it -
No - I can't want it
Anymore:

Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I'm through with playing by the rules
Of someone else's game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It's time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes: and leap!

It's time to try
Defying gravity
I think I'll try
Defying gravity
And you can't pull me down!

GLINDA
Can't I make you understand?
You're having delusions of grandeur:

ELPHABA
I'm through accepting limits
'Cuz someone says they're so
Some things I cannot change
But till I try, I'll never know!
Too long I've been afraid of
Losing love I guess I've lost
Well, if that's love
It comes at much too high a cost!
I'd sooner buy
Defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye
I'm defying gravity
And you can't pull me down:
(spoken) Glinda - come with me. Think of what we could
do: together.

(sung) Unlimited
Together we're unlimited
Together we'll be the greatest team
There's ever been
Glinda -
Dreams, the way we planned 'em

GLINDA
If we work in tandem:

BOTH
There's no fight we cannot win
Just you and I
Defying gravity
With you and I
Defying gravity

ELPHABA
They'll never bring us down!
(spoken) Well? Are you coming?

GLINDA
I hope you're happy
Now that you're choosing this

ELPHABA
(spoken) You too
(sung) I hope it brings you bliss

BOTH
I really hope you get it
And you don't live to regret it
I hope you're happy in the end
I hope you're happy, my friend:

ELPHABA
So if you care to find me
Look to the western sky!
As someone told me lately:
"Ev'ryone deserves the chance to fly!"
And if I'm flying solo
At least I'm flying free
To those who'd ground me
Take a message back from me
Tell them how I am
Defying gravity
I'm flying high
Defying gravity
And soon I'll match them in renown
And nobody in all of Oz
No Wizard that there is or was
Is ever gonna bring me down!

GLINDA
I hope you're happy!

CITIZENS OF OZ
Look at her, she's wicked!
Get her!

ELPHABA
Bring me down!

CITIZENS OF OZ
No one mourns the wicked
So we've got to bring her

ELPHABA
Ahhh!

CITIZENS OF OZ
Down!

3. Shattered Faith - Bad Religion
The scientists purported that there ain't no purpose
And the theologians told me that's all been designed
And I'm trying to maintain objectivity
The world won't illuminate what really matters
And I'm an imperfect moral meaning extractor
Processing the complexity

CHORUS:
Born of the earth (are we blind?)
We weren't given a choice (there's no way)
What about free will? (what we have)
Do we have a voice? (is shattered faith)
See them run in place (here and now)
In the human rat race (no reward)
So much dead weight (no debate)
To our disgrace (just shattered faith)
Life begins when you accept your fate

Paralysis from forces raging out of control
Until my confidence and will are at an all-time low
Just directionless wandering
Eternal life, eternal truth, eternal secrets
Isolated hopes and hypotheses
Just leave me feeling so hungry

CHORUS

Right or wrong
The main criterion
Is what you do and not what you say
The roads you take
The friends you make
And the ones you throw away
The method is
A simple synthesis
Of the past and present state
You never lose
If the path you choose
Is one you can easily navigate

I had a dream
Light and carefree
But now there's doubt
And gravity

But I won't run in place (are we blind?)
In the human rat race (there's no way)
I can set the pace (what we have)
And accept my fate (is shattered faith)
Shattered faith (here and now)
Shattered faith (no reward)
The part of me (no debate)
I can't erase (just shattered faith)

8. "Run Joey Run" David Geddes 1975
Run Joey Run
David Geddes

Daddy please don't, it wasn't his fault, he means so much to me
Daddy please don't, we're gonna get married... just you wait and see.

She called me up, late last night, she said Joe, don't come over
My dad and I just had a fight, and he stormed out the door
I've never seen him act his this way, my God, hes going crazy
He says he's gonna make you pay, for what we've done, he's got a gun, so

Run Joey Run Joey Run
Daddy please don't, it wasn't his fault, he means so much to me
Daddy please don't, we're gonna get married... just you wait and see.

I got in my car and I drove like mad, till I reached Julie's place
She ran to me, with tears in her eyes, and bruises on her face
All at once, I saw him there, sneaking up behind me, WATCH OUT!
Then Julie yelled, he's got a gun, and she stepped in front of me
Suddenly, a shot rang out, and I saw Julie falling
I ran to her, I held her close, when I looked down, my hands were red,
and heres the last words Julie said...

Daddy please don't, it wasn't his fault, he means so much to me
Daddy please don't, we're gonna get married.....aaahhh..ahhhh
ahhhh....ahhhhh

Run Joey run Joey run Joey run Joey run Joey run

10. Classic!
Nah, I'm serious. I know most people hate that song, but I find it so melodramatic it's irresistible. Nothing like a good, cheesy early- to mid-seventies story song!

13. "Rocky" Austin Roberts - 1975
Rocky
Austin Roberts

Alone until my eighteenth year
We met four springs ago
She was shy and had a fear
Of things she did not know
But we got it on together
In such a super way
We held each other close at night
And traded dreams each day

And she said
'Rocky, I've never been in love before
Don't know if I can do it
But if you let me lean on you
Take my hand, I might get through it' (Through it)
I said, 'Baby, oh sweet baby
It's love that sets us free
And God knows if the world should end
Your love is safe with me'

We found an old gray house
And you would not believe the way
We worked at night to fix it up
Took classes in the day
Paintin' walls and sippin' wine
Sleepin' on the floor
With so much love for just two
Soon we found there'd be one more

And she said
'Rocky, I've never had a baby before
Don't know if I can do it
But if you let me lean on you
Take my hand, I might get through it' (Through it)
I said, 'Baby, oh sweet baby
It's love that sets us free
And God knows if the world should end
Your love is safe with me'

We had lots of problems then but
We had lots of fun
Like the crazy party
When our baby girl turned one
I was proud and satisfied
Life had so much to give
'Till the day they told me
That she didn't have long to live

She said
'Rocky, I've never had to die before
Don't know if I can do it...'

Now it's back to two again
The little girl and I
Who looks so much like her sweet mother
Sometimes it makes me cry
I sleep alone at nights again
I walk alone each day
And sometimes when I'm about to give in
I hear her sweet voice say to me

'Rocky, you know you've been alone before
You know that you can do it
But if you'd like to lean on me
Take my hand, I'll help you through it' (Through it)
I said, 'Baby, oh sweet baby
It's love that sets us free
And I told you when the world would end
Your love was safe with me'

She said
'Rocky, you know you've been alone before
You know that you can do it
But if you'd like to lean on me...'

9. "Human Race" by Red Rider
Red Rider
Human Race
From - Neruda

I can see it on the road ahead
Running hard I'm here
But I could be there instead
Many houses with the lights on
Silhouettes behind the shades
Beside fires
I'm sure that I saw you in one
I loved you but
That was way back then
Now I'm alone outside
I face the wind
The rain washes me thin

Knocked me down and I got back up
I got myself back in the race again
Knock me down and I'll get back up
And I'll get myself
Back in the race again

Race through the shadows
Race against stone
The sunken city
I thought was my own
Might be in a brave new world
But it's not my home
Roll over fall in
'My God', I screamed
They might catch them
They won't catch me
I'm out here clean
I'm free...I'm free

Knocked me down and I got back up
And I got myself
Back in the race again
Knock me down and I'll get back up
And I'll get myself
Back in the race again

:hi:

12. Descendants
Song: Hope

Lyrics:
why can't you see you torture me
you're already thinking about someone else
when he comes home
you'll be in his arms and i'll be gone
but i know my day will come
i know someday i'll be the only one

so now you wait for his spark
you know it'll turn you on
he's gonna make you feel
the way you want to feel
when he starts to lie
when he makes you cry
you know i'll be there
my day will come i know
someday i'll be the only one

call me selfish
call me what you like
i think it's right
to want someone for all your own
and not to share her love
and i'll have my way
and won't have to say anyway
cause i've got you
you don't stand a chance

so now you wait for his cock
you know it'll turn you on
he's gonna make you feel
the way you want to feel
when he starts to lie
when he makes you cry
you know i'll be there
my day will come
i know someday i'll be the only one

my day will come
i know someday i'll be the only one

so you want perfection
i see your self destruction
you don't know what you want
it's gonna take you years to find out
i'm not giving up
and when you've had enough
you'll take your bruised little head
and you'll come running back to me
you know that i'm gonna be the only one.

16. Killing Joke - War Dance
The atmosphere's strange
Out on the town
Music for pleasure
It's not music no more
Music to dance to
Music to move
This is music to march to
IT'S a war dance

A war dance

Look at the victim
Scrawled on the wall
You know the the reason

Outside the door
You got something
Nasty in your mind
Trying to get out
IT'S a war dance

A war dance

We walk round the pitch
Honesty is sick
Try to be honest
Look what you get
The food runs short
And then the money talks
One way out
YOUR PREMONITION IS CORRECT

A war dance

O Fortuna,

velut luna

statu variabilis,

semper crescis

aut decrescis;

vita detestabilis

nunc obdurat

et tunc curat

ludo mentis aciem,

egestatem,

potestatem

dissolvit ut glaciem.

Sors immanis

et inanis,

rota tu volubilis,

status malus,

vana salus

semper dissolubilis,

obumbratum

et velatam

mihi quoque niteris,

nunc per ludum

dorsum nudum

fero tui sceleris.

Sors salutis

et virtutis

mihi nunc contraria,

est affectus

et defectus

semper in angaria;

hac in hora

sine mora

cordis pulsum tangite,

quod per sortem

sternit fortem

mecum omnes plangite.

But in my head, "Another Day in Paradise" by Phil Collins

She calls out to the man on the street
’sir, can you help me?
It’s cold and I’ve nowhere to sleep,
Is there somewhere you can tell me? ’

He walks on, doesn’t look back
He pretends he can’t hear her
Starts to whistle as he crosses the street
Seems embarrassed to be there

Oh think twice, it’s another day for
You and me in paradise
Oh think twice, it’s just another day for you,
You and me in paradise

She calls out to the man on the street
He can see she’s been crying
She’s got blisters on the soles of her feet
Can’t walk but she’s trying

Oh think twice...

Oh lord, is there nothing more anybody can do
Oh lord, there must be something you can say

You can tell from the lines on her face
You can see that she’s been there
Probably been moved on from every place
’cos she didn’t fit in there

Oh think twice...

23. "Swim" - Ms Ciccone
"Swim"

Put your head on my shoulder baby
Things can't get any worse
Night is getting colder
Sometimes life feels like it's a curse

I can't carry these sins on my back
Don't wanna carry any more
I'm gonna carry this train off the track
I'm gonna swim to the ocean floor

Mmmmm
Crash to the other shore
Mmmmm
Swim to the ocean floor

Children killing children
While the students rape their teachers
Comets fly across the sky
While the churches burn their preachers

We can't carry these sins on our back
Don't wanna carry any more
We're gonna carry this train off the track
We're gonna swim to the ocean floor

Let the water wash over you
Wash it all over you
Swim to the ocean floor

So that we can begin again
Wash away all our sins
Crash to the other shore

Mmmmmm

Crash to the other shore
Swim to the ocean floor
Mmmmmm

27. Tom Petty-Learning to Fly
Not bad music when you're pulling an all-nighter. Damn fucked-up sleep cycle.

Well I started out down a dirty road
Started out all alone
And the sun went down as I crossed the hill
The town lit up the world got still

I’m learning to fly but I ain’t got wings
Comin’ down is the hardest thing

Well the good old days may not return
And the rocks might melt, and the sea may burn

I’m learning to fly but I ain’t got wings
Comin’ down is the hardest thing

Well some say life will beat you down
Break your heart, steal your crown
So I started out for God kno ws where
But I guess I’ll know when I get there

I’m learning to fly around the clouds
But what goes up must come down

I’m learning to fly but I ain’t got wings
Comin’ down is the hardest thing
I’m learning to fly around the clouds
But what goes up must come down

I’m learning to fly
I’m learning to fly

30. "A Little Night Dancin'" by John Mellencamp
'cause it was on my playlist right after "Do You Realize?" by The Flaming Lips...

'A Little Night Dancin'

Written by John Mellencamp

Well west of Zion
They got a hot spot brewing
Handcuffs and kisses
For the people who live there

Guitar player's playing
Cinderella saying
Hey boys get that spoon to my nose
And we'll run through the midnight air

CHORUS:
Night, night, whoa night dancin'
Hey just a little, little, little night dancin'
Night, night, whoa night dancin'
Hey just a little, little, little night dancin'

Sodom and Gomorah
They run the roadhouse
They keep everything jumping
As the drummer keeps the beat

And it's really something when those kids start bitchin'
Yeah it starts me itching
As I jump to my feet to go

CHORUS
CHORUS

35. The Dresden Dolls covering "Amsterdam"
originally by Jacques Brel - then covered in English by Bowie:

In the port of Amsterdam
There's a sailor who sings
Of the dreams that he brings
From the wide open sea
In the port of Amsterdam
There's a sailor who sleeps
While the river bank weeps
To the old Willow tree

In the port of Amsterdam
There's a sailor who dies
Full of beer, full of cries
In a drunken town fight
In the port of Amsterdam
There's a sailor who's born
On a hot muggy morn
By the dawn's early light

In the port of Amsterdam
Where the sailors all meet
There's a sailor who eats
Only fish heads and tails
And he'll show you his teeth
That have rotted too soon
That can haul up the sails
That can swallow the moon

And he yells to the cook
With his arms open wide
"Hey, bring me more fish
Throw it down by my side"
And he wants so to belch
But he's too full to try
So he stands up and laughs
And he zips up his fly

In the port of Amsterdam
You can see sailors dance
Paunches bursting their pants
Grinding women to porch
They've forgotten the tune
That their whiskey voice croaked
Splitting the night
With the roar of their jokes
And they turn and they dance
And they laugh and they lust
Till the rancid sound of the accordion bursts
And then out of the night
With their pride in their pants
And the snot that they tow
Underneath the street lamp

In the port of Amsterdam
There's a sailor who drinks
And he drinks and he drinks
And he drinks once again
He'll drink to the health
Of the whores of Amsterdam
Who've given their bodies
To a thousand other men
Yeah, they've bargained their virtue
Their goodness all gone
For a few dirty coins
When he just can't go on
Throws his nose to the sky
Aims it up above
And he pisses like I cry
On the unfaithful love

In the port of Amsterdam
In the port of Amsterdam

36. Thanks to the beautiful and fantabulous GirlinContempt,

"Beds are Burning," by Midnight Oil.

Out where the river broke
The bloodwood and the desert oak
Holden wrecks and boiling diesels
Steam in forty five degrees

The time has come
To say fair's fair
To pay the rent
To pay our share

The time has come
A fact's a fact
It belongs to them
Let's give it back

How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning

Four wheels scare the cockatoos
From Kintore East to Yuendemu
The western desert lives and breathes
In forty five degrees

The time has come
To say fair's fair
To pay the rent
To pay our share

The time has come
A fact's a fact
It belongs to them
Let's give it back

How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning

38. South Side by Moby and Gwen Stefani
See myself in the pouring home
See the light come over now
See myself in the pouring rain
I watch hope come over me

Here we are now going to the east side
I pick up my friends and we start to ride
Ride all night we ride all day
Some may come and some may stay

Here we are in the pouring home
I watch the light man fall the comb
I watch a light move across the screen
I watch the light come over me

Here we are now going to the west side
Weapons in hand as we go for a ride
Some may come and some may stay
Watching out for a sunny day where there's

Love and darkness and my sidearm
Hey, elan

Here we are now going to the north side
I look at my friends as they start to ride
Ride at night we ride all day
Looking out for a sunny day

Here we are now going to the south side
I pick up my friends and we hope we won't die
Ride at night, ride through heaven and hell
Come back and feel so well.

42. I was just listening to the "Murmur" album by R.E.M.
Here are the lyrics to "Radio Free Europe", as posted on remrock.net...

http://www.remrock.net/remrock/lyrics/albums/murmur.html?song=radio

Decide yourself if radio’s gonna stay.
Reason: it could polish up the grey.
Put that, put that, put that up your wall
That this isn’t country at all

Raving station, decide yourself

Keep me out of country in the word
Deal the porch is leading us absurd.
Push that, push that, push that to the hull
That this isn’t nothing at all.

Straight off the boat, where to go?
Calling on in transit, calling on in transit
Radio Free Europe, radio.

Beside defying media too fast
Instead of pushing palaces to fall
Put that, put that, put that before all
That this isn’t fortunate at all

Raving station, decide yourself
Calling on in transit, calling on in transit
Radio Free Europe, radio.

Decide yourself, calling all of the medias too fast

Keep me out of country in the word
Disappoint is into us absurd

Straight off the boat, where to go?
Calling on in transit, calling on in transit
Radio Free Europe
Radio Free Europe

Calling on in transit, calling on in transit
Radio Free Europe
Radio Free Europe

44. Leslie Mills - Different For Girls
It is excellent. Shows how some of the best pop music isn't a huge seller or constantly on the radio.

Funny story: I heard stuff from a CD by Some Girls, thinking it was the group Juliana Hatfield is in - but it's completely different, and I hated it!

48. Doobie Brothers
What a Fool Believes

He came from somewhere back in her long ago
The sentimental fool don’t see
Tryin’ hard to recreate
What had yet to be created once in her life

She musters a smile
For his nostalgic tale
Never coming near what he wanted to say
Only to realize
It never really was

She had a place in his life
He never made her think twice
As he rises to her apology
Anybody else would surely know
He’s watching her go

But what a fool believes he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away
What seems to be
Is always better than nothing
And nothing at all keeps sending him...

Somewhere back in her long ago
Where he can still believe there’s a place in her life
Someday, somewhere, she will return

She had a place in his life
He never made her think twice
As he rises to her apology
Anybody else would surely know
He’s watching her go

But what a fool believes he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away
What seems to be
Is always better than nothing
There’s nothing at all
But what a fool believes he sees...

50. pink floyd- the dogs of war
Dogs of war and men of hate
With no cause, we don't discriminate
Discovery is to be disowned
Our currency is flesh and bone
Hell opened up and put on sale
Gather 'round and haggle
For hard cash, we will lie and deceive
Even our masters don't know the web we weave
One world, it's a battleground
One world, and we will smash it down
One world ... One world
Invisible transfers, long distance calls,
Hollow laughter in marble halls
Steps have been taken, a silent uproar
Has unleashed the dogs of war
You can't stop what has begun
Signed, sealed, they deliver oblivion
We all have a dark side, to say the least
And dealing in death is the nature of the beast
One world, it's a battleground
One world, and we will smash it down
One world ... One world
The dogs of war don't negotiate
The dogs of war won't capitulate,
They will take and you will give,
And you must die so that they may live
You can knock at any door,
But wherever you go, you know they've been there before
Well winners can lose and things can get strained
But whatever you change, you know the dogs remain.
One world, it's a battleground
One world, and we will smash it down
One world ... One world

52. Pearl Jam - Yellow Ledbetter
Unsealed
On a porch a letter sat
Then you said ’i wanna leave it again’
Once I saw her on a beach of weathered sand
And on the sand I wanna leave it again... yeah
On a weekend I wanna wish it all away yeah...
And they called and I said that I want what I said
And then I call out again
And the reason oughta leave her calm I know
I said ’i don’t know whether
I’m the boxer or the bag’
Ah yeah ehh....
Can you see them
Out on the porch
But they don’t wave
I see them round the front way yeah
And I know I don’t want to stay...

Make me cry <guitar solo>

Ooooh I see
I don’t know there’s something else
I wanna drum it all away
Oh I said I don’t, I don’t know whether I’m a boxer or the bag
Ah yeah ehh....
Can you see them
Out on the porch
But they don’t wave
I see them round the front way yeah
And I know I don’t want to stay
I don’t wanna stay (2x)
Don’t
Don’t wanna
Oh... yeah... oooh...

53. Oral Fixations vol.2 by Shakira

How Do You Do ~ Shakira

Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who have trespassed against us.
Give us this day our daily bread, daily bread, daily bread.

What language do you speak? if you speak at all,
Are you some kind of freak, who lives to raise the ones who fall?
Hey would you tell me why, the cat fights the dog?
Do you go to the mosque, or the synagogue?

And if our fates have all been wrapped around your finger
And if you wrote the script, then why the trouble-makers?

How do you do?
How does it feel to be so high?
And are you happy? Do you ever cry?
You've made mistakes, well that's ok cause we all have
And if I forgive yours, will you forgive mine?

Hey do you feel our pain?
And walk in our shoes?
Have you ever felt starved,
or is your belly always full?
How many people die,
and hurt in your name?
And does that make you proud or,
does it bring you shame?

And if our fates have all been wrapped around your finger
And if you wrote the script, then why the trouble-makers?

How do you do?
How does it feel to be so high?
And are you happy? Do you ever cry?
You've made mistakes, well that's ok cause we all have
And if I forgive yours, will you forgive mine?

Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who have trespassed against us.
Give us this day our daily bread, daily bread, daily bread. 2x

God is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory Amen!

How do you do?
How does it feel to be so high?
And are you happy? Do you ever cry?
You've made mistakes, well that's ok cause we all have
And if I forgive yours, will you forgive mine?

How do you do?
How does it feel to be so high?
And are you happy? Do you ever cry?
You've made mistakes, and that's ok cause we all have
And if I forgive yours, will you forgive mine?

54. "Pachelbel's Greatest Hit".
A collection of different interpretations of Pachelbel's Canon in D major. The one playing now is really cute. It's a mixture of the Canon and the song "Earth Angel." It reminds me of my wife.

There are some good renditions on this CD. The Canadian Brass do their classic rendition, and the Concord String Quartet plays a series of variations on the Canon. Tomita has a version played, of course, solely on synthesizer. The only bad cut on the CD is a really stupid song called "How, Where, When" sung by Cleo Lane to the tune of the Canon. it really bites; and who told Cleo Lane she was a singer? Bleh!

The rest of it is terrific.
