How Many Georgia DUers Here?
Hi,

Allow me to introduce myself. I'm PopSixSquish (bonus points to whoever figures out the user name)

I recently relocated to the Georgia after 15 years in Cali. So far I love the place. Have family here, starting to make some great news friends. BUT in the name of all that is holy...

WHAT IS UP WITH THE GEORGIA DMV? 25 minutes in line to sit for 4 hours for a new driver's license? And I have to go to a different place to register my car? Huh? What? Help?

1. Hi there
Question not the DMV, for its ways are mysterious and its bureaucracy immense and frightening. :) The nice thing is that you can redo your tag online now.

Where in GA are you? East metro Atlanta here.

3. Hi Ulysses
I live in Buckhead. The online thing is nice, but I have to get a first time GA license and registration. And don't even get me started about all the documentation these folks want. I'm surprised they didn't want a blood sample.

I lived off Piedmont near Pharr for the first year I lived in Atlanta. Ick.

And they haven't told you about the bone marrow sample yet? ;-)

13. We weren't too far north of you
briefly today - had to drive out 78 to Monroe for my brother-in-law's second-wedding reception. :)

Lotta the scarlet-throated types out that way...

There are many DMV's. You can get a licence in Kroger stores. Renewal by mail. I don't know if you can get your first licence in Krogers though.

I am here to tell ya this state needs some work. Social services are nill.

Labor department in state is organized for companies benefit. Like a human resource dept in a company looks after the companies interests.

"Right" to work state. Little union protection or laws to support unions.

Been here 18 years, from Chicago and Detroit.

As you probably know by now, the state party leaders decide on a pricinct basis weather they figure they can win or not. If not, don't expect democrate on the state ticket. I wonder who exactly it is that makes these decisions. The next election will need a lot of effort to keep it clean. Fact is, I am thinking the time to clean it up is now, long before the primaries.

Probably think I am some carpetbagger or a damn yankee. I've been called that more than once.

I like the spring. It starts around end of February and each week a different type of tree or flower blooms well into mid-May. It is very nice to wake-up to the aroma of all the different plants.

Anyway, welcome and feel free to e-mail.

5. Former Georgian with a DMV suggestion.
I assume this will work in Georgia. It works in Texas and Virginia. If you live in a large metropolitan area, drive an hour or so to a small town in a small county with a DMV office. I've done that for years.

Welcome to DU!
