An email a wing nut sent me today ...
At Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC recently, the Sergeant Major of the Army, Jack Tilley, was with a group of people visiting the wounded soldiers. He saw a Special Forces soldier who had lost his right hand and suffered severe wounds of his face and side of his body.

The Sergeant Major wanted to honor him and show him respect without offending, but what can you say or do in such a situation that will would encourage and uplift? How do you shake the right hand of a soldier who has none?
He decided to act as though the hand was not missing and gripped the soldier's wrist while speaking words of comfort and encouragement to him. But there was another man in that group of visitors who had even brought his wife with him to visit the wounded who knew exactly what to do.
This man reverently took the soldiers stump of a hand in both of his hands, bowed at the bedside and prayed for him. When he finished the prayer he stood up, bent over the soldier and kissed him on the head and told him that he loved him. What a powerful expression of love for one of our wounded heroes!
What kind of a man would do such a thing? It was the wounded man's Commander-in-Chief, George W. Bush, President of the United States.
This story was told by the Sergeant Major at a Soldiers Breakfast held at Redstone Arsenal, AL, and recorded by Chaplain James Henderson, stationed there.
Pass it on...the press won't.

1. Just more bullshit from the BS crowd
This link clarifies the matter:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/injured.asp

Last night someone sent me the chain-letter e-mail full of the shrill, whining nonsense about America being a Christian nation and those who don't like it need to leave. I responded by correcting the sender's misconceptions quite harshly. Every single time you get garbage like this you need to combat it; otherwise people like this will assume that silence indicates consent and acceptance of their delusions.

I do always respond to this sort of bullshit but is better to know the validity of first. Even IF it had been a true account - to acknowledge that this is the least that he could do, considering these people (as well as the citizens of Iraq) are dying and suffering severe injuries because of HIS illegal attack on an innocent country.

3. from Snopes:
"The story that is spreading around the internet is a well-woven embellishment of the SMA's story."

IMO, I don't know about how well-woven the embellishment is. Here's the link -- worth reading: http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/injured.asp

5. How
did the guy get from Alabama to Walter Reed in a short period of time?

Also, when did Bush go to Walter Reed? I live in the D.C. area if it had happened, wouldn't it have been in the Washington Post? I just checked their archives back to 1977 and no article. I did however come up with this:

Bush's Absence At Soldier's Wake Insults the District
Article 15 of 30 found
Courtland Milloy
September 8, 2003; Page B1
Section: Metro
Word Count: 720

In the District, President Bush serves as commander in chief of the D.C. National Guard, the way governors do in their states. So you might have expected him to show up yesterday at the funeral for Spec. Darryl T. Dent, 21, the D.C. guardsman who was killed recently in Iraq.

Canaan Baptist Church, where Dent's funeral was held, is at 16th and Newton streets NW, not five miles from the White House. Bush could have jogged to the wake, had a courier drop off flowers and a card or,

6. BS, aside from the snopes debunking
(and I'm grateful for that at least) Bush strikes me as very uncomfortable around anyone sick or handicapped in anyway, let alone injured and missing body parts. It think this is a story meant to shore up a weakness of his. Another, if we repeat it 100s of times people will think it's true. :eyes:
