were beat out for supporting actors by the Jake dude and a Brit sounding woman. Are these awards more home-country skewed, which wouldn't be any less so than the Oscars, now would they? Are they less adumbration for the Oscars than the Golden Globes?

Not that the Oscars or other awards are any more meaningful. Samuel L. JACKSON recently described how he and, he claims, many/most members perform their voting. "I check off any friends listed on the ballot and put the ballot on a side table. My wife checks off a couple of names in things she's seen (and puts them on the side table). Then the personal assistant, maid, and gardener check off the rest. The personal assistant gets them in the mail."

Btw, maybe this event isn't even live and everybody (but me) knows this. And the award knickknack itself is stunningly beautiful (the theatrical mask).

3. Try checking out the Guardian online.
I use the U.K.'s Guardian newspaper a great deal to check headlines and the like. In addition, it's a great resource for movie fans.

Here's one article, from the Observer, posted on the website. It addresses some of the questions you raise in your post.

Note that the Best Supporting Actress Award winner at the BAFTAs was a British woman, Thandie Newton, appearing in an American film (Crash).

The basic website for the Guardian. Be sure to check out its search function and its film section and links.
