Aside from paying half of it in taxes. ;)

6. Figure out how much I need to NEVER work, then travel, live comfortably
yet modestly, start some foundations/shelters for homeless pets, and then give away to family and friends, and the rest to charity.

7. I would make a very large donation to the DU
I'd use most of it to help other people because I have never really wanted much; I live very simply.

8. Build a house or
buy an apartment in a foreign country just in case Bush decides to impose martial law. It would either be in Brazil or Argentina.

Also, I would give money to some progressive groups like NOW and drug treatment programs.

19. Apartments in Brazil can be surprisingly affordable
Mrs. Squeech and I have bought two-- not in the tourist areas, but in places where friends of ours live. The first was in Vitoria, a fairly prosperous (although not very interesting) port city about 6 hours up the coast from Rio. We got a deal because the building wasn't done yet; it cost us R$29,000, which at the time was about $15,000 US. Mrs. Squeech says I should mention the lovely beach a block and a half away, and a tiny rain forest within walking distance, complete with garcas (herons).

Then we bought another condo in downtown Recife, the city in the northeast corner. It was one of the first European settlements in the New World, being just about the closest to the Old World, but its glory days are pretty much behind it, and there's a lot of poverty there now. We bought a place for a friend of ours, somebody who'd overstayed a student visa by about ten years, and they caught up with him and deported him. He works as an English teacher, since he spoke it here for ten years, but it's not a good living, and he kept having to decide whether to pay the rent or eat properly or see a doctor (which last is an issue; just before they caught up with him, he was treated for thyroid cancer). So we sent him money to buy a condo, so he'd never have to make that choice again, the rent would always be covered. It cost R$25,000, and the real was doing a lot worse at that point, so it came out to $8,000.

I've paid more for cars.

To answer the real question, if I won a ten million dollar prize, I think I'd buy up an bankrupt farm and turn it into a wind farm and maybe a tree farm. The question is whether it would be in the part of the country where I live already (Massachusetts) or the Southwest, where a part of me has always wanted to go.

9. Flee

A modest house in Ireland, one in Costa Rica and the rest socked away comfortably overseas.

And I'd never look back.

13. I'd buy more lottery tickets!
First thing I would do is change my phone # to an unlisted one. Then, I'd pay off my house, my mother's house & my sisters houses.

After that ......... I would be traveling.

I'd pay off my student loans and sock away a little bit in a college fund for my niece and nephew and spend the rest to run for office.

18. Use it to leave the country.
Take up residence somewhere in Europe. Take what I had after buying a house and a few other things and invest in something like tax-free municipal bonds, live off the interest(6% per annum, with 3 million invested, gives a return of $180K yearly...I think I could live on that). Not look back.
