remember when Wendy's had tasty burgers?

You'd go in and order, and they'd cook your burger right in front of you, and it was tasty?

Tonight I went in to get a chicken sandwich. I was the only customer in the place, yet I noticed what must have been about twenty of their square hockey pucks on the griddle. I assume the griddle was on low.

No wonder their burgers are so bad these days. They just keep them sizzling until someone adopts one and takes it home.

No offense to vegans, but I enjoy a good burger now and again, and they're just not even trying anymore. I'm assuming Dave would be angry about it.

They were never tasty here.

And it was SO much better than any fast food burger I'd ever had before. Juicy... mmmm.

I don't know of a fast food place that has good ones anymore. I blame two factors: overreaction to e-coli, and "welfare reform."

They both make good fast food burgers but no so fast that they're ready made.
Wendy's never stood a chance against those two and is more like McDonald's with the burgers sitting on the grill like you described.

is, IMHO, THE BEST fast-food hamburger currently available.

I only wish they carried it all the time and not just every so often.

If you force people to take jobs at Wendy's, they're probably not going to try real hard to make a good burger.

started (Columbus), so they sure as hell better be good here . Wendy's is by far my favorite burger, though I always order plain (to guarentee they're made fresh)

I knew they started out up there. First time I went to Wendy's was in the 1970s. I think it was in the Dayton area, but I'm not sure about that. I liked those tables they used to have with the old-timey newspapers printed on them.

Maybe I should complain to the local franchisee. Doesn't sound like company procedure to leave the patties on the grill like I saw.

that being said...i wouldn't eat a burger from any fast food joint if it was force fed to me

but i did like the spicy chicken burger from wendys...probably still do, but haven't had it in ages.

The spicy chicken sandwich. It wasn't great, but wasn't bad.

The last burger I got there was awful, and now I know why. But I don't know why they do it like that. Wouldn't they do better business if they tried to make it taste good? It takes about five minutes tops to cook a nice burger, but apparently they're frying them for twenty, thiry minutes. Yuck.

Oh and Dave Thomas always seemed like a really good guy to me, but I only knew him through his commercials and from what he did about adoption.

Gotta go to the Jersey Shore for that. And saltwater taffy. I grew up there, and have traveled hither and yon.... and I'm stickin' by those statements!

But I do like the salt water taffy from the Jersey Shore...especially the James brand.

But, I'll reserve the "rea; frozen custard" judgment until I try some...

about 1/2 a block from the Boardwalk, until he died about 10 years ago. He used to send us boxes of taffy during the holidays. I especially like the ones dipped in dark chocolate.

My grandpa, and a couple of his neighbors held out WAAAAAYYYY too long when the casinos were trying ot buy up properties near the Boardwalk. He could have walked away from a house worth maybe $35,000 (this is a generous estimation) with close to a million, but he wanted 1.5 million, as did his neighbors, and the casinos just basically built around them.

The chocolate-dipped ones are great, the fudge they make also great, and their macaroons? OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I loved going there when I was little (before the casinos). I saw the diving horses, I walked up to the jetty and rode the rides. It was a great family getaway...Now it is just blight and casinos.

We played AC in football, track, etc. -- and our teams hated going there. It was like a nasty piece of Philly or NYC set down in what had been a decent -- albeit sometimes a little seedy -- shore resort.

I was born in Philly, and still have relatives in the area. We used to come to Philly and Atlantic City almost every summer.

And about 40 minutes from Philly!!! (The George Washington Bridge, anyway!) Tastykake Pies, REAL chesesteaks... okay, since you do know what real custard is, I'll believe you.

We used to live in Somerville, NJ when I was tiny. My grandparents were divorced before I was born, my grandma lived in a row house in SW Philly, and of course grandpa lived in AC. Grandpa worked his entire life (until retirement) at Westinghouse.

There's been effort in some quarters to get casinos here in Alabama. I say that's fine and dandy in Birmingham or Huntsville or Montgomery. But I don't want them on the coast. It would totally ruin the beach-going experience, in my opinion.

Seriously. The crime rate and social services costs go WAAAAYY up when a community opens a casino.

In Chicago Porillo's does a fine burger and that is a smaller chain. Paradise Pup on River Rd. has an amazing burger.

My favorite was the double cheeseburger with everything on it (didn't they also have a triple?). Their chili was pretty good too.

Those days are gone as I've been on the vegan bandwagon for almost 10 years now.

They were made FRESH, from REAL hamburger, and were good.

Every damn week day, a Wendy's cheeseburger and a medium frostie.
And a chicken chimichanga dinner from Taco Bueno on Saturdays.

How I managed to get through that year without my blood "going all chunky" (TMStephanie Miller) is beyond me.

Now you couldn't force feed me a Wendy's burger.

It's that new Hawaiian burger joint.

I don't like fries* so anytime I went there I use to ask for a caesar salad or a baked potato but I usually had problems. The last time I went I asked for some chicken strips with honey mustard sauce and a side caesar. The cashier told me they were out of salads. I then asked for a baked potato with sour cream and butter and he said ok. I checked my bag before leaving I noticed he had only put chicken and a potato in there. When I asked about it he said they were out of honey mustard, butter and sour cream. Now I don't mind chicken without any kind of sauce but who the hell eats a baked potato with nothing on it? He wasn't too happy when I asked for my money back.





*ok I like the think cut ones if cooked properly with malt vinegar but what most places give you is the fast food equivalent of plywood with grease serving as the glue.

Their service is terrible now. There was a time when their service was outstanding.

Once in the 80s, I bought my food and made it all the way home before I realized that they had left an order of fries out. I went right back to the store and told the manager. He took my bag; threw it in the trash; and had a fresh order made for me. I'm talking all the hamburgers, all the fries, and all the drinks. NOW that was service.

On the subject of being out of things - a couple of years ago, my husband and I pulled into an Arby's, both of us wanting roast beef sandwiches.

They were out of roast beef. We could have chicken or ham, but they had no roast beef.

Arby's was out of roast beef.

It's like, "This is Dominos, we're out of pizza dough!"

Last couple of times I've ordered a salad at Wendy's, they were all wet. Literally. Nothing ruins a salad like water. Maybe I should buy them a salad spinner.

I remember back in junior high school when I actually looked forward to going to the out-of-town Wendy's. It was like a step above all the other fast food places. Then a few years back, we actually got a Wendy's in my hometown, but it has pretty much always been the worst quality fast food stuff in town. I'm not sure what happened; if it's mainly my local one or what- but based on my own experiences, Wendy's has definitely gone downhill in quality in recent years.

Otherwise I'd never eat fast food hamburgers ever. :puke:

Wendy's has turned almost as shitty as Mickey Ds lately. Ate one last January and it suuuuuuuuuuuucked. Tasted like it was 4 hours old.

monks bar in the dells...well most bars in wisconsin that serve food- i`ve never had a bad burger in 35 years of traveling thru wisconsin.

store in the area a local butcher got the contract, they used local suppliers and the meat was never frozen. Compared to McD'sm and Burger King I still like Wendy's best.

As long as I get plenty of onions. I don't even ask for a slice of their cardboard tomatoes anymore. I wouldn't mind paying extra to Wendys or anyone else for decent tomatoes, even if they had to ship 'em in from Canada or somewhere. :)

I saw an article in the paper awhile back about a woman around here who sells tomatoes year-round that she grows hydroponically. I was planning looking her up, but now I can't remember the name of her business. I bet them is some 'spensive 'maters though. ;)

They always had such a good selection of fixings. I didn't care for the "food bar" when they added all the other stuff to compete with Ponderosa or Rax (now gone).

I kinda liked it, but not that much I guess, since I had forgotten about it.
