1. No Law Degree Required!
:)

California Bar Exam is notoriously difficult, but no ABA-accredited law degree required.

2. Those are the ones I count on...
...to set the lower half of the curve. Not being cruel or wishing failure on anybody (karma is real), just referring to statistically-abysmal passage rates of non-ABA bar takers.

3. Best of luck!
Or, you can go to a Wisconsin law school and practice in Wisconsin and not have to take the bar exam at all!

(I'm starting at Marquette this fall and that fact is not lost on me.)

4. There are a few states like that. *jealousy*
Good luck this fall.

ADVICE--"take advice." Seek it out from third years. Early. What to read, what not to read. Professors are no help, they don't want you using outside sources, it threatens their autonomy and control. Find and upper-class person you trust and listen to him/her. They will tell you which profs want to hear their words thrown back at them (in that case DO read what prof says) and which ones whose egos are intact and just want you to learn the law and analysis.

And THANKS for your well-wishes.

Scott

7. Thanks!
I've talked extensively with a few current Marquette 3Ls and they've said similar things. I've been told that there are things that'll be a lot harder than I expected, and things that'll be a lot easier than I expected, and contrary to what everyone says about 1L -- that you literally have no time to do anything other than study the law, and if you're so much as going to a movie once a month or even having sex at all you're not doing it right -- it's really not all that bad at Marquette if you manage your time properly and know when to say "OK, I'm done here" and don't drink or drug too much for stress relief (which I never have).

I've also been told I should seek out other nontrads (I'm 30, with a live-in SO and a whatever the not-legally-married-to-her-dad equivalent of "stepdaughter" is ) and try to set up study groups, or at least playgroups for the kids so all of us can have some study or other quiet time.

8. I didn't start until I was 30...
Started a bit late (4 1/2 yr detour in the Navy, see avatar) and have been married for 8 yrs. Also went to school 150 miles from where my wife and I live, having to keep an apartment while in school. 1st year we saw eachother maybe every other weekend. 3rd year has been much easier as I'm home every weekend.

Still no fun. Make sure it's what you want to do because it will be quite time-consuming and stressful on your relationship. Not trying to talk you out of it by any means, I don't regret doing it at all, it just wasn't easy given all the other variables that you seem to have as well.

Best of luck!

10. Believe me, I've thought this through...
I won't have the travel issues (the law school is 5 miles down the road) but everything else still applies.

Thanks!
