What is "varsity"?
I'm attending a social services course and they're using US material, most of which makes no sense whatsoever.

Apparently US teens' biggest issue has something to do with "varsity".

Never heard of it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varsity_team

In the United States and Canada, varsity sports teams are the principal athletic teams representing a college, university, or high school or other secondary school. Such teams compete against the principal athletic teams at other colleges/universities, or in the case of secondary schools, against other secondary schools. Groups of varsity sports teams are often organized into athletic conferences, which are groups of teams that regularly play each other during a given athletic season. In recognition of their high level of performance, athletes on varsity teams are often given varsity letters.

4. Could be that schools are so large that only the elite can letter
And hence be varsity, which is a shame.

EVERY student at a high school should have the ability to letter in a sport...
