I'm getting sick of filling out resumés...

Got any tips for getting preferably an interview for a job?

There's a school library (I'm in it right now :)) that I'd like to work in (I worked in my highschool library all four years) and I feel I'd be able to handle it. Now, I know if I just fill out a resumè, it'll go to whereever the rest of the bureaucratic paperwork goes (portable black holes?). Is there any way to get a live interview?

Sorry, couldn't help myself, not trying to nag.

As for getting an interview, keep buggin them after you've handed in the paperwork. Call/visit them about once a week. That will show them you have great interest in the job, so it's always a good thing.

Is through people you know. Often, it's who you know and not what you know, a shame but true. I've had four different jobs in the last sixteen years and only interviewed for the first one. Since then I've been able to get jobs based on the reputation i've made for myself and the friends i've made in the industry.

6. Yes that's true. Personnal connections are still the best way

to get a job. Short of that, you have to be very persistent.

7. Sell yourself in the cover letter.

The resume will tell them whether you have necessary skills, but the cover letter is your chance to tell them why you are a good fit for the library.

Also, look at the library's website and the job description. Be sure that you include all of the keywords that apply to you and that you make a connection between your experiences and the job description.
