Today also begins Spring Break and Greekspeak is leaving in about an hour for Missouri to go see his parents and friends.

I don't have any plans for the weekend other than working, cleaning the bathroom, laundry and DUing. I don't know if I can handle the excitement. :rofl:

Hey, that's even gotten MY heart pumping with excitement! :rofl: I DO hope you have a little time to squeeze in some fun time, though.

With the 12 hour shifts, commute time, sleep time and shower time I'm left with a little over 2.5 hours in the evening before I have to leave for work again. That doesn't leave much time for merry-making. I generally just make and eat dinner and relax a bit--watch some tv or do some reading.

I can see how you don't have time for too much fun. I love to read too...in fact, I'm going over to Barnes & Noble as soon as they open to look for a new book as I'm nearly finished with the one I'm reading now.

Mike and I were in Borders last night. We browsed around a bit and each got a copy of the Washington Blade (local gay newspaper). If retail didn't suck so much and pay so little I wouldn't mind working in a book store again. I just love books so much.

About the books. I've worked in retail for so long, it's second nature to me. You have to be in Management to make enough money to live on...and then only barely.

I was manager of a book department in a department store until the division went defunct, much to my chagrin. Then I was assistant manager of a Waldenbooks. During that time I ended up being acting manager for many months, which made me realize I didn't want to be manager of a large store like that (nor was I cut out for it). I don't know what an assistant manager position would pay nowadays, nor that I'd want to do it. I'm going to try for a library position when I move as the library systems in MA are different than down here. You don't need a graduate degree to make a living wage there (although you do for the really high positions). Down here for anything over six something an hour you need a Master's.

But I guess that's the way things are going in this country. A Masters degree to work at McDonalds. :eyes:

But then you aren't going to make a living wage there (or WalMart and such). In my field I can't make a living even with a Bachelor's, and I'm no longer interested in anything higher. That's why I want to get out and go into the library field. However to get anything with a real living wage I'll need a Master's. In MA I can probably get something that I can make do on for a few years with my current level of education, but the Master's is a necessity for the long haul.

How are you today? Yes, it is unfortunate that his trip and my extended days off coincide. He's going to take my new car too. The Jeep needs work done and we didn't have time to get it all done beforehand.

Charming though some of us are (your humble correspondent excepted), four days solid might be a tad too much for your sanity.

I've got mixed views on shopping - some is wonderful, I can get lost in bookshops for hours (though I've banned myself from buying anymore for the moment), anywhere with ties gets similar attention. On the otherhand, I hate supermarket - absolutely despise them - mostly I think it's the total lack of natural light.

I hope that you manage to find what you're looking for very quickly.

Since I don't have to worry about being to work at a specific time, I can just relax and shop!

Like I say - different types cause different moods in me.

and at Best Buy, an electronics superstore. That's to start.

I've actually put myself on a book-buying ban - I was sorting things out, and the pile of books to be read was getting on for a foot high. Even with the amount that I read, that will take quite some time.

I'm in the middle of a history of the Arabs, an anthology of 17th century political philosophy, and a couple of Theology books at the moment.

What sort of things do you read?

But I love to read things like "Le Morte D'Arthur" by Sir Thomas Malory. It's a little difficult to read...but I love stuff like that! :bounce:

I'm still packing and sorting all the stuff I wish I had lived without, only now, I have a sprained wrist. Wish I had some really wild story about how it happened, but I did it trying to untangle two blankets in a huge dryer at the laundromat last weekend. Now my wrist is in pretty bad shape. :(

My daughter will be 19 (OMG, where HAS the time gone?) on Tuesday and we're celebrating this weekend. :party:
