Where'd the Ralph's picketers go?
If we're supporting the strike in SoCal, can we shop at Ralph's now? The picketers are gone, but they still have scabs working there.

On Vermont in LA (which I drive on every day), there is a Vons and a Ralph's that face each other. During the height of the strike, there were picketers at both, now they are just at the Vons. They even have a plywood sign that says "Shop at Ralph's" in spray paint with an arrow pointing across the street. If Ralph's is still working scabs, why would the Vons strikers tell us to shop at Ralph's?

1. The unions stopped picketing at Ralph's for the holidays
so they wouldn't lose public support but it appears there is still an issue based on this story in LBN

3. What do you mean?
"So they wouldn't lose public support"?

So they don't want to piss off Ralph's customers, but are fine picketing in front of Vons and Albertsons?

Also, why wouldn't the UFCW see this apparant windfall for Ralphs (as well as the alleged sharing of the burden) as enough reason to put their members back at Ralph's, public suport be damned?

4. Because the owner of VON'S has been the main sticking point
in negotiations. It is really HIS intention to bust the unions and people with Thanksgiving coming around were starting to cross the lines more frequently anyway for the deals. Remember most communities no longer have a great deal of choices for markets and if people cross a picket line, there is less economic incentive for management to negotiate.

Thanks for the posts, NSMA.

Gotta head to bed now. Head to full of rules of perpetuities, removal/remand, parol evidence and the like.

Last day of school was today. Now 8 days of dead week, then a final every other day for a week and a half.

7. My civ pro prof said the same thing today
but he is also the Dean of Students and was dressed in a Santa suit and a sombrero, so I dunno) He said that nobody ever gets everything. He never got perpetuities and gave up studying it for the bar. He said that if they're gonna get him on that, then fuck it, they'll get him on it. (pretty much word for word, actually) He'll study everything else, he said.

So I guess everybody concedes it. That's reassuring... ;-)

Some days I actualy think I get it though. But then again..."some days you feel like a nut..."

2. Don't know, but DON'T SHOP AT RALPH'S!
I was told recently that they want to work with Albertson's and Vons to break the union. Assholes.

8. I have a Ralphs
right across the street from me but I am still avoiding shopping there because they locked out their employees and hired scabs.
