3. Big beautiful city...
and I'm sitting here all by my self.

All the people in this apt block are couples/families and are busy with their own friends & lives.

I don't have friends or a life yet to be busy with.

I WANT FRIENDS! I WANT A LIFE!!!

*sniff*

16. True.
Any idear just how long I have to wait?

I'd thought a nice large city, like Vancouver, would be more chance to meet people. Now it dawns on me that a large city like Vancouver means it's much tougher to meet anyone.

And tomorrow's Friday and the weekend. I suppose I can do lotsa laundry...wash my car...sit & mope...

*sigh*

19. Well I kinda think you must have known what you were getting into?
Is the weather suppose to be good? I say, get out and explore your new surroundings! I hear Vancouver is a beautiful city! Better than anything Texas has to offer in the way of large cities, right? I envy you! So much! Please don't mope! Explore and send us unfortunate Americans, lots of pics of your new large, free and progressive city!

As a suggestion: do you have any hobbies? Look into local groups if you can. It's a start...

8. I've met some of my closest friends doing things like that
I used to run a movie club in DC, and I met The Prophetess through a friend that used to go to the movies with us. Also several good freinds.
It works.

13. D'oh! No DP there.
Look! Craigslist has a Vancouver site! Bet that would be a good place to start looking for interesting community groups and people.

18. No, no!!!!
Don't cry, be happy that you've begun a new adventure in an awesome city. Check to see if there are any book groups at the local Barnes & Noble or more urban bookstores. It's a fantastic way to meet new people. And you'll also find out about some excellent books as well. So, tomorrow evening if you don't have anything planned, go to the bookstore and you'll find lots of people looking through various racks. You're not the only one with nothing to do in town. Go in the area that fits your taste and you might just meet someone who shares the same interests. I've met a lot of people that way.

12. How about a song?
From the yellow and black attack

"Are you feeling lonely?
Are you feeling blue?
Does your life seem empty?
You know what to do.

Verse 2
You say you've go some troubles, yeah, oh so many downs.
You need a light to lift you off the ground.
And if your life feels senseless, just accept the Lord.
And He'll make you see things you never have seen before.
An everlasting life abounding, oh yeah.
Yes, He will and He's always giving more.
And His light will never stop shining, it's for you, yes it is."

You can't stop the rock!

14. There are a number of DUers in Vancouver.
Check out the Canada group and suggest a get-together. I'd be happy to meet you, except I am in Chicago.

Good luck meeting people. It must be damn strange to be in a new town and not know anyone.

17. Ah! I'd introduce you to my inlaws but I LIKE YOU!
Edited on Thu Mar-09-06 11:03 PM by sfexpat2000
Sometimes this works: be nice to somebody for no reason. Just in the random course of your day, give someone change, smile, let them go first.

I have no idea why this works but it does.

Good things will come, sweetie. Maybe this is the Universe's way of giving you down time, time to recharge, before dealing with a neighborhood again.

25. Been thinking that myself, sfexpat...
Got a ton of things I have to do over the next few days and then there's job hunting to do and I've only been here 4 days. It's just change, even good change, is a tough thing to deal with sometimes. *deep breath* I'm gonna be fine. :)

21. There is a Doctor Who story of the same title... "Kinda"
Very intellectual (if not plastic and cheap-looking) story...

Lonesome? Surely there are things we DUers can do together? (that's also g-rated, I'm not anybody's type... :D )

Not a dang thing planned. I like MooPie's Barnes & Noble idea...is there a BN in town? We could meet up for a coffee (tea)? Did you have anything in mind? I still don't know what there is in town, I really need to look thru my Vancouver guide books & maps.

Next week I really need to finish my must-do things (changing driver license, car, etc) and then the Big Ick...job hunting. I hate job hunting. But if I think of it as ways to meet new people, then it wouldn't be so bad. Hmmmm. :)
