What's The Motivation Of Being A "Mole/Troll/Infiltrator"??

I don't understand the attraction. What kind of person finds personal satisfaction in doing that?

It seems like the effort it takes to do that is hardly worth any "payoff" that one might get when the mask is lifted.

I just don't get it. Do you?

It seems to me to be a huge waste of time. That one guy had over 1000 posts. For what? Exactly what did he get out of it?

for some sort of attention... But an adult... for three years! That just blows the mind. Especially when he clearly had zero impact. Makes no sense.

... are the ones who don't give a shit. Very little effort is wasted trying to be stealthy and lurk around. None of this cloak-and-dagger stuff for them. None of the double-double-reverse-psychology secret-decoder-ring nonsense for them.

They don't try to hide... they make a BIG entrance and a BIG flame out! Or... perhaps they try to "hide" while they build up enough posts to be able to start threads on their own. But then, they can't resist it. They blow their wad in two or three posts, and they are tombstoned.

Those are the ones I remember.

I can't imagine voluntarily wasting that kind of time. Talking to people you don't like, pretending to be something you're not.

Many of us spend enough time in the closet in years past. Who'd want to go into another kind of closet voluntarily?

tongue in cheek. The other thing I never understood is the dedicating of an entire site to the watching of a site one purports to detest. Far too much time is spent on the pursuit of being goofy. :hi:

I guess they fancy themselves some sort of double naught spy or something. As far as I have seen, not one of them ever accomplished anything that made a real impact on this place. Sure, we might talk about them for an hour or two, and then use them as a joke here and there, but that seems to be as far as it goes.

I can't imagine spending years on a site like this just to one day say something like.."Ha ha..got you, I made you all look like fools! Now I will leave and well... umm.. do something else with my life." And then they go away..LOL. WTF?

He was a DU troll, and seemed so proud of himself that he wanted to tell me all about it all the time. I had never heard of DU before then.

He was pretty much antisocial, yet seemed to think himself superior. Nobody could stand this guy. At the same time, he had a completely unhealthy preoccupation with Drudge. He couldn't wait to throw the smarmy kind of slander bytes at other people in the office.

Before the last presidential primaries, he was always asking me about Kerry. When I would tell him that I was for Dean, he would get this glassy eyed look, because Drudge hadn't said anything about *him* that day. He didn't have any ammunition.

In short: he was a waste. It was just sad to watch.
