I have the coolest friends in Connecticut!
A month ago, my friend Debbie was elected by an overwhelming margin to the Board of Selectmen of rural Windham, Connecticut. And today, I learned that through the efforts of a local grass-roots organization that Debbie helped to form, Windham's branch office of the State Department of Social Services was just re-opened, a year after it closed due to our Republican governor's draconian budget cuts. (This same governor also threatened to veto a bill with a two-year sunset clause that would have imposed a 1% increase in the state income tax paid by millionaires, the proceeds from which would have gone directly into Connecticut's education budget.)

God, I love my friends! :bounce:

12. OK, you guys are cool, but why
do Connecticutans drive like maniacs?
We drive to our daughter's house near Boston 2 or 3 times a year.
We used to take I-84 through Connecticut from border to border.
I've driven in Rome, I've driven in Paris, I've even driven in Boston <shudder>, but that stretch of I-84 is the most harrowing, adrenalin pumping piece of pavement I've ever traveled.

If you wimp out and take the right lanes you have to deal with more on and off ramp traffic per statute mile than anyplace else.

If you take the left lane, be prepared to do 75-80, no matter WHAT the speed limit is, or get run over. You'll get tailgated anyway. 75 mph, bumper-to-bumper, is not my idea of motoring. This is two feet driving. It's like being in a zero visibility approach, low on fuel, to a short runway, for 3 freaking hours. My nervous system just won't take it any more. We've been rear-ended twice on that run, when the guy behind us didn't q-u-i-t-e hit his brakes in time.

Now we peel off of I-84 in NY and take the NY Throughway up to the very beginning of the Masspike. It's a few miles longer, but about as fast and MUCH less nerve-wracking.
