Just found some plants growing in front of my apartment. Are they...
what I think they are? If so, my 3 sons have some "Splainin" to do.

I havent been into herbal cultivation in over 25 years and forgot how canabis looks like. Thes do look like how I remember them to be.

So what do you think? Are they pot plants?

2. Hell no! I'll give them some TLC for the THC.
My herbalist is taking a "County sabbatical", as we speak.

4. Hollered to Havocdad to take a look. He says no (which is what I thought)
Five 'green fingers' for pot. His first question was "where's the poster from?" LOL Don't think he actually wanted your address just a general idea of climate. He is a biologist and plant specialist, not a pot head.

10. But in the early growth stages they sometimes have less than five leaves.
If my memory serves me correctly.

13. LOL and how much faith shall we place in your memory?
Actually, I recall a weed that looks a lot like your pics from when I lived in Southern California. Can't tell you what it was though.

Havocdad's judgement on the pics you posted, I tend to trust. Am thinking he may have been familiar with the plant at various stages of growth from some, ahem, experiments in college.

8. We had ditch weed growing in between the rocks off our patio,
when I lived in an apartment. Then we looked down the hill that the complex sat on and realized it was growing all over and decided we probably weren't going to get in trouble for our one little plant. :P

6. No
the leafs are similar in form, but pot plants have 5 leafs bunched, not three.

I mean... that's what I've READ, at least....

7. It appears to be pot to me.
But I am not an expert. I have read of plants having more or less than the five leaves that is mentioned above. Only one way for me to tell.

14. Pot plants can crop up for years after a seed spill
Or just randomly grow where they've been blown. If they're weed, don't automatically assume they're there because of your sons or anyone else who lives in the building. Just pull them up and throw them out.

17. My sons and their friends "dabble" in that from time to time.
One of their friends likes to play the Johnny Appleseed role and plants seeds all over.
I just questioned my 20 yr old and he laughed, saying that his friend probably planted them some time ago.

I'm sure they'll get bigger one day. ;)

But you might want to pull it, regarding where you live. :scared:

And since we still have hemp seeds in our bird food, we're pulling a whole filed of them in spring. It grows like weed here. Oops, what did I say? ;)

On edit: I was just reading through all the posts here. That is Cannabis. Pretty premature, but 100% sure.

20. That is DEFINITELY Pot, Sorry, Those Saying It's Not Are Wrong
Edited on Sun Mar-12-06 05:28 PM by Beetwasher
No doubt that's weed. However, it doesn't mean your son is intentionally growing it, it's possible in cleaning weed some seeds were dropped and they grew there.

I AM an expert, those are pot plants.

26. I second that. It might be crapweed, but it is definitely WEED.
Those are young plants, the leaf clusters won't always look
'textbook perfect' at that age. Fewer and fatter leaves
are expected in juvenile plants.

People who say you can ID it by the number of leaves are just WRONG.
There is NO set number, I have seen trees 12 feet tall with
clusters of 17 leaves, 2 feet long.

Not that I ever grew any. That would be illegal!

24. Thought cannabis was supposed to have five leaves/bunch....
And, from the pic of actual canabis posted upthread, the leaves on your plant seem a bit skinny and differently shaped.

It COULD be pot in early development, though....

:D

25. It's easy to see why you would think that it is pot.
I think that is highly unlikely. Like some previous posters, pot has a compound leaf made of 5-7 leaflets. And the "teeth" that make up the leaflet edges are sharper on pot plants. I am 99.99% sure you have got a weed there.

29. That's Cannabis Indica...
which is very good (if grown in good soil). You can tell by the wide leaves. It's better than Cannabis Sativa. BTW, they need full sunlight all day.

After you talk to your kids, write your congress critters and lobby for decriminalization, so you don't come home one day to find your kids in jail. I didn't stop to please my parents. The best you can hope for is to not have them cause you to lose your home, which will get taken if those plants are found.

Oh, and if the kids are caught they lose all federal loans and grants for college. Is this a great country or what. ;)

Bill
