How else can I explain such classically dufus-tastic behavior as getting out of the car in the automated car wash, during the "wax" cycle, forgetting my own home phone number, holding up the line and having to call my husband on his cell phone from the video store to get it, and slamming a wooden cane into my foot, thereby breaking small bones in it, while performing in a play?

Is this a situation where I'm supposed to say "I understand" and then post that weird hug smiley? Or is this a situation where I'm supposed to say nothing and just never reply to anything you post ever again? As I've said several times tonight, my lapsed Catholic guilt is messing with my head.

This was after I got a phone call from my boss who had locked the keys to the state vehicle in it. He asked me to go get the spare from my office. I pulled up, got out of my car, it was running. I shut the door and immediately realized I had LOCKED THE DOOR! I habitually lock the door when I get out so it was just out of habit. But still it was running. We had to call one of those locksmiths on wheels.

I just don't get it.

Do they use Maaco?

Is it an oxymoron to call it music?

I mean, I understand it intellectually (velocity, thrust, etc) but I don't understand it like...emotionally. Gigantic bazillion tons of metal and shit flinging itself into the sky. Tools of the devil, I tells ya. x(

Never will understand that one. Ever. I had to watch a guy I beat the year before win a state title that evening. It was horrible.

I feel for my cat...but no person, other than my parents. Nobody feels this affection towards me, so I must be a freak. Please explain?

I understand that it's there, I understand that it is borne by fear, but what I don't get is this:

Talk to almost any dirt-poor farmer in the country. Pick the ones that have no education at all to speak of-the people that had to drop out of school in the 8th grade to make ends meet on the farm. The people that literally have nothing, and never will have anything anyway because they can't muster the resources to get anywhere. Explain economics to them, and quite often they will shut down immediately if you talk about any kind of social safety net. Then they'll come back with "I ain't no damn commie!"

These people KNOW they have nothing. They know they will always have nothing. They have children they can barely feed sometimes. And, they HATE rich people, and curse them whenever their backs are turned. Yet, so often they refuse to consider social policy in the government, and immediately reject it as communism when it comes up, even though in some cases it may be the only thing that could help them make a better life. Sometimes they even reject the idea of unions for the same reason, when unionization would only benefit them. It's such a gut-level reaction that they can't be opened up to discussion.

The amazing power of propaganda has made people like this into perpetual slaves. And even though sometimes they know that that's what they are, they look upon any kind of change to the system that keeps them down with disgust.
