1. The place is dead to me till Tull gets in
Until Jethro Tull gets in the place is a joke but at least this year's crop isn't too bad.

Sabbath were pioneers, Blondie too.

Skynard has endured despite being dead for over 25 years.

Sex Pistols belong and the fact that they truly decline the honor means they blong even more. :-)

Albert & Moss are A&M so they matter.

Gotta wonder about Miles Davis though. While he may have indeed "rocked" did he really rock'n'roll?

No, Ian Anderson is a guy in the band. Jethro Tull is the name of the band.

Oscar: You know, one thing that really drives me mad is when people think that Jethro Tull is just a member of the band.

Psychologist: Who's Jethro Tull?

Oscar: glares at psychologist

4. A&M should be inducted for their ability to kill good indy-rock groups
these are the same guys who somehow couldn't break The Cure in the US-- despite singles like "Boys Don't Cry".

Miles Davis was/is a HUGE influence on a lot of rock music, from funk to indy/college rock (want proof? "Bitches Brew" could have been an early Sonic Youth record, if SY played horns instead of guitars). A lot of non-rock musicians have been inducted into the HoF as pioneers, even though they may not have recorded any "rock" tunes, per se.

And Jethro Tull? No comment. :P

5. Miles is the reason for more music than perhaps any other person.
Edited on Mon Mar-13-06 07:31 PM by WritingIsMyReligion
Kind of Blue influenced all other modern music, including rock n' roll. Miles has got as much of a right to be there as Blondie does, probably even more.

7. Believe me, I am not dissing Miles Davis.
I would never dispute he would have the right to be there.

I am just not a fan of the hall of fame for my stated reasons so I feel that they are trading on his name.

Hell, I could name about 20 hall of fame acts that Miles Davis blew away. Starting with AC/DC. Here come some flames for that one but again, it's mostly my Tull bias. :-)

I really thought you were going off on Miles, and so I fired up. My bad.

Yeah, the Hall of Fame can be cheapo...and Miles should have been inducted like a year after his death, which was in 1991. This is long overdue for his memory and legacy.

:D

10. Yeah, I never got the AC/DC thing either
Maybe it's because they're Australian-- but then again, I can think of a dozen or so Oz bands that are better than AC/DC. Hell, even INXS is better than them, IMHO.

A true "Super Group" from the 70's and very influential to boot.
I saw them live at old Boston garden in 1973. One of the top 3 shows I have ever seen!

On second thought (and having read everyone's posts here) Miles should be there for his influences. For the life of me though I never get the glaring omissions from all kinds of Halls of Fame. Who are the judges and how in the world do they choose?

13. I remember standing on the corner with a piece of pizza. Eat To The Beat..
I'm thrilled to see that Blondie will be there tonight....Deborah Harry is one classy lady....she fronted an amazing band.

This ceremony is not without controversy....

Johnny Lydon (Rotten) Sex Pistols has publicly dissed the ceremony and The Hall of Fame...says they (The Pistols) won't be there tonight......we'll see.

Only the four founding members of Blondie: Chris Stein, Deborah Harry, Clem Burke and Jimmy Destri are to be at the ceremony tonight.....

It will be shown on VH1 on March 21st 2006....check local listings for time.

16. What we need is a REAL rock&roll hall of fame, that isn't full of shit
and that honors and recognizes true creativity and importance in the world of rock&roll.

I think it is right and appropriate that the Sex Pistols are not going, and others have refused their nominations.

Sabbath should have been in the first go-round, as well as Miles. and a lot of others who have been ignored while a lot of shit bands and shit "musicians" have been inducted into that farce.

19. Nice to finally see
some people getting some credit.

Black Sabbath freaking invented metal! (I have some deaf friends who love Sabbath - can't hear it but they feel the beat - thanks BS for bringing music to the profoundly deaf:) )

Blondie - always beyond the curve.

Miles - not to my taste but he inspired so many people. Much of our music wouldn't exist without Miles. Long, long past time to salute his genius.

But the thing is, he was a TRUE musician--in spirit, in personality, in talent. True musicians are hard to find on the mainstream plane these days.

38. When they petitioned to have it here, I was against it
My girlfriend at the time signed my name to a petition and was so excited to tell me. I was not too happy about it and had to explain to her that the idea for a museum for Rock and Roll was against everything I stand for. Sure, I have mellowed with age, but I still think that the whole thing is a joke. One day I might even go visit it, but only to get it over with.

I don't really care who gets inducted and I don't care to watch the ceremonies. I, along with others, think they should have called it something else. Rock and Roll is an attitude, and that's the attitude I take against that fucking museum..lol.

44. I gave up with the whole "Phone call from Yoko" exhibit.
That's when it takes a turn for the lame. That, and displaying the costumes of such musical luminaries as Britney Spears and N'Sync.

Our bank had their end-of-year party there once. The R&RHOF is definitely best when it's free, has Neil Peart's Counterparts drum kit on display and not crowded with ashtray-and-ditchwater-smelling rednecks from Vermilion or Brunswick (apologies to any clean-smelling Dems who live in these places) blocking up all the display view.

Two questions:

* Why are the Sex Pistols being inducted? They were more hype and guile than talent, they only made one fucking album, Johnny Rotten made better music with pIL and they employed Sid goddamned Vicious. That guy being anywhere near a HOF doesn't necessarily give said museum much credibility, does it?

The second question, I'll ask in it's own thread . . .

Where'd all the dip go?
Is there any more red wine?
