Home, sweet home
I made it back home tonight. Leaving my Dad was one of the hardest things I've done this week. We both knew that when I left, we'd both be alone for the first time since Mom died.

When I got back, both cats came running to greet me, and they haven't left my side since I got here. Proof positive that absence does make the heart grow fonder.

I suspect that I've finally made that transition that we all must face - the realization that "home" is where you live. So much of the last year or two has been focused on care for my parents, I've never really made this place MY home. But tonight, it became home for me.

Somewhere amidst the grief, I will go about making my home MY place, by putting pictures on the walls and unpacking boxes that have sat in my garage for the last 2-1/2 years. I think that when I do, I'll find that home has been with me all along.

2. Welcome home, darlin' Rev
"Somewhere amidst the grief, I will go about making my home MY place....." That is wonderful, Rev. I know your heart is still hurting, and will be for awhile, but I'm happy to know that you are finally able to embrace your dwelling as your HOME.

3. My dear Rev...
How lovely to see you tonight.......

I realize how much grief you've had recently, and I wish I could do something really substantial to help you recover from all of it.....

All I have are my hugs and my words....... :loveya:  :loveya:

And how right you are......."I'll find that home has been with me all along."

Funny, I just made an interesting typo.....instead of typing home, I typed hope......Just one letter's difference, and it can either make the world of difference, or show the similarities...

To me, home and hope go hand in hand ...

Welcome Home, my dear Rev! :hi:

4. As we age, 'home' changes
You are heading into the 'home is where I live' stage. Then comes 'home is where ever I am' and finally, 'home is where I am going when I lay this shell down'

Glad you made it HOME ok, Rev. LOL Home is where they have to let you in... even if 'they' are just a pair of happy cats ;)

Get some rest.

6. Home.

When I think of home
I think of a place where there's love overflowing
I wish I was home
I wish I was back there with the things I've been knowing

Wind that makes the tall trees bend into leaning
Suddenly the snowflakes that fall have a meaning
Sprinkling the scene, makes it all clean

Maybe there's a chance for me to go back
Now that I have some direction
It would sure be nice to be back home
Where there's love and affection
And just maybe I can convince time to slow up
Giving me enough time in my life to grow up
Time be my friend, let me start again

Suddenly my world's gone and changed it's face
But I still know where I'm going
I have had my mind spun around in space
And yet I've watched it growing

If you're listening God
Please don't make it hard to know
If we should believe in the things that we see
Tell us, should we run away
Should we try and stay
Or would it be better just to let things be?

Living here, in this brand new world
Might be a fantasy
But it taught me to love
So it's real, real to me

And I've learned
That we must look inside our hearts
To find a world full of love
Like yours
Like me

Like home...

7. My dear Dangerously Amused.......
I don't know why, but I am so moved by these verses.....

They almost bring me to tears.....

Who wrote them? Are they part of a song?

Thank you so much for posting them.....

If you have a journal (I forgot to look), this would be something to put in it.....

13. Hey Sweet CalPeg!

They are the verses from the song "Home" in the Musical "The Wiz," sung by Dorothy. One of my all-time favorite musical songs. Diana Ross (Dorothy) sings it in the movie version. It is a song that comes to mind when I miss my own home, or my family, or friends and times from my growing-up years. The song starts starts out softly, with Dorothy alone and afraid, and crescendos as she realizes her inner strength, then ends strong and powerful. Yes, it has brought me to tears on more than one occasion.

:loveya:

*Some versions have "raindrops" instead of "snowflakes."

50.  Ahh! Doh!!

In re-reading the verses, the second last verse should be "like mine," not "like me". Makes better sense and rhymes better too, ain'a? (I copied and pasted the words from a lyrics site, but still "proof read" it to be certain the words were correct. How could I have missed that? Oh well. I caught it eventually.)

24. I hope this song will provide some musical comfort, Rev

Doc Watson

Will the Circle be Unbroken

I was standing by my window
On a cold and cloudy day
When I saw that hearse come rolling
For to carry my mother away

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, Lord, by and by
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky

Well I told the undertaker
Undertaker please drive slow
For the body that you are hauling
Lord, I hate to see her go

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, Lord, by and by
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky

Well I followed close behind her
Tried to hold up and be brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid her in her grave

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, Lord, by and by
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky

Went back home, Lord, oh so lonesome
Since my mother she was gone
All my brothers, sisters crying
What a home so sad and 'lone

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, Lord, by and by
There's a better home awaiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky

46. Even more perfect than the song...
is the Rose. Roses appeared everywhere this week - on her memorial card, on the bulletin for the service, in several floral baskets,... I even found a picture frame for her pic that I gave to Dad before I left. And get this: while I was driving home, I SWEAR I could smell roses in my car as I got near home.

Thank you so much!
