What was - or would you like to be - your WEDDING SONG?
Ours: The probably too typical Dance me to the End of Love by Leonhard Cohen

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic 'til I'm gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Oh let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on
Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long
We're both of us beneath our love, we're both of us above
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the children who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in
Touch me with your naked hand or touch me with your glove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Don't let the lyrics fool you: this is a looooooong song!

23. That was one of our wedding songs
Edited on Fri Mar-17-06 10:57 PM by latebloomer
We had the Lou Rawls version.

And for comic relief-- "That's No Lady-That's My Wife", from the same album.

We also had a Basia song-- "Time and Tide"-- for our first dance, "The Rose" for pre-ceremony, and "Ode to Joy" for walking down the aisle and returning.

1. Grow Old with Me
Grow old along with me
The best is yet to be
When our time has come
We will be as one
God bless our love
God bless our love
Grow old along with me
Two branches of one tree
Face the setting sun
When the day is done
God bless our love
God bless our love
Spending our lives together
Man and wife together
World without end
World without end
Grow old along with me
Whatever fate decrees
We will see it through
For our love is true
God bless our love
God bless our love

2. She's No Lady - Lyle Lovett
She hates my mama
She hates my daddy too
She loves to tell me
She hates the things I do
She loves to lie beside me
Almost every night
She's no lady she's my wife

The preacher asked her
And she said I do
The preacher asked me
And she said yes he does too
And the preacher said
I pronounce you 99 to life
Son she's no lady she's your wife

And I can't remember
How I met her
Seems like she's always just been hanging here off my right arm
And I can't remember
How I ever
Thought that I just couldn't live without a woman's charm

And even though
She loves the smell of French perfume
And even though
She walks around in high-heel shoes
All I know
Is I'm the one who pays her price
Man she's no lady she's my wife

And I can't remember
How I met her
Seems like she's always just been hanging here off my right arm
And I can't remember
How I ever
Thought that I just couldn't live without a woman's charm

Yea she hates my mama
She hates my daddy too
She loves to tell me
She hates the things I do
She loves to lie beside me
Almost every night
She's no lady she's my wife

3. We made a CD
REM-White Tornado (my theme song)
Bill Cosby routine about marriage
FLy me to the moon-Sinatra
I can't help falling in love with you-Elvis P
A Billy Holiday song

Some horrid piece of crap my mother wanted on there

Tony Bennett
More Sinatra
MArvin Gaye (Let's get it on) last song

It was very popular. My wife burned them and we left them on all the tables. The cover was like the Beatles White Album and we featured some information about our wedding day (Day of the Dead).

I wrote a song for my now ex-wife, which my band recorded and put on our first CD. We played it during the dollar dance, too, IIRC.

5. Almost 38 years ago....More by Andy Williams
Must be a lucky tune, played at our wedding first dance:

more than the greatest love the world has known
This is the love i give to you alone
More than the simplest words i try to say
I only live to love you more each day

More than you'll never know my arms long to hold your soul
My life will be in your keeping, waking, sleeping, laughing, weeping
Longer than always is long long time,
But far beyond forever you'll be mine

I know i never live before and my heart is very sure
No one else could love you more

I know i never live before and my heart is very sure
No one else could love you more

7. Give Yourself to Love, by Kate Wolf
Edited on Fri Mar-17-06 03:56 PM by Shine
:loveya: We had it in our wedding ceremony, almost 13 yrs ago....

Kind friends all gathered 'round, there's something I would say:
That what brings us together here has blessed us all today.
Love has made a circle that holds us all inside;
Where strangers are as family, loneliness can't hide.

You must give yourself to love if love is what you're after;
Open up your hearts to the tears and laughter,
And give yourself to love, give yourself to love.

I've walked these mountains in the rain and learned to love the wind;
I've been up before the sunrise to watch the day begin.
I always knew I'd find you, though I never did know how;
Like sunshine on a cloudy day, you stand before me now.

So give yourself to love if love is what you're after;
Open up your hearts to the tears and laughter,
And give yourself to love, give yourself to love.

Love is born in fire; it's planted like a seed.
Love can't give you everything, but it gives you what you need.
And love comes when you're ready, love comes when you're afraid;
It'll be your greatest teacher, the best friend you have made.

So give yourself to if love is what you're after;
Open up your hearts to the tears and laughter,
And give yourself to love, give yourself to love.

Give yourself to love, if love is what you're after;
Open up your hearts to the tears and laughter,
And give yourself to love, give yourself to love.

12. Truly by Lionel Richie
Girl, tell me only this
That I'll have your heart for always
And you want me by your side
Whispering the words I'll always love you

And forever I will be your lover
And I know if you really care
I will always be there

Now I need to tell you this
There's no other love like your love
And I,as long as I live,
I'll give you all the joy
My heart and soul can give

Let me hold you
I need to have you near me
And I feel with you in my arms
This love will last forever

Chorus:

Because I'm truly
Truly in love with you girl
I'm truly head over heels with your love
I need you, and with your love I'm free
And truly, you know you're alright with me

15. No wedding song - but "Sunshine of your love" - Cream
Edited on Fri Mar-17-06 05:42 PM by livetohike
was printed on our wedding invitation :-).

Sunshine Of Your Love
by Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Pete Brown
It's getting near dawn,
When lights close their tired eyes.
I'll soon be with you my love,
To give you my dawn surprise.
I'll be with you darling soon,
I'll be with you when the stars start falling.

I've been waiting so long
To be where I'm going
In the sunshine of your love.

I'm with you my love,
The light's shining through on you.
Yes, I'm with you my love,
It's the morning and just we two.
I'll stay with you darling now,
I'll stay with you till my seas are dried up.

Chorus

Repeat Second Verse

I've been waiting so long
I've been waiting so long
I've been waiting so long
To be where I'm going
In the sunshine of your love.

Edit: just had to add the lyrics

17. First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - Roberta Flack
It was from me to my husband, so it wasn't really "our song", he was mostly uninvolved in the wedding except for the showing up part.

First Time Ever I Saw Your Face

The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the empty skies, my love,
To the dark and the empty skies.

The first time ever I kissed your mouth
And felt your heart beat close to mine
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command, my love
That was there at my command.

And the first time ever I lay with you
I felt your heart so close to mine
And I knew our joy would fill the earth
And last till the end of time my love
It would last till the end of time my love

The first time ever I saw your face, your face,
your face, your face

And p.s. this was BEFORE the soap commercial.

18. Mrs. Laelth and I had a Rush song.
Bravado

Words by neil peart, music by geddy lee and alex lifeson

If we burn our wings
Flying too close to the sun
If the moment of glory
Is over before it’s begun
If the dream is won --
Though everything is lost
We will pay the price,
But we will not count the cost

When the dust has cleared
And victory denied
A summit too lofty
River a little too wide
If we keep our pride --
Though paradise is lost
We will pay the price,
But we will not count the cost

And if the music stops
There’s only the sound of the rain
All the hope and glory
All the sacrifice in vain
if love remains
Though everything is lost
We will pay the price,
But we will not count the cost

Still love those lyrics.

-Laelth

21. My wedding songs:
O Mio Babbino Caro by Puccini, sung by my sister, a classically trained coloratura soprano.

All I Ask Of You, from Phantom Of The Opera, sung by my sister, and my best friend, a gospel baritone.

Bridge Over Troubled Water, by Simon and Garfunkle, sung by my best friend.

My wedding video captures the guests sitting in gap-jawed amazement over these incredible performances. :wow:

by Eric Clapton

I can't listen to it anymore after the the big D

I'm okay with everything else and most of the time don't even think about the fact that the marriage went south but everytime I hear that song I go to a sad place so I just turn it off. It sucks cause I really liked that song!
