37. The original was magnificent--
one of my all-time favorite films.

I thought the remake lacked focus and clarity--they tried to modernize the story without changing the title, which was a mistake to some extent. The original was a little trippy, but it made sense--it was masterful.

The remake had characters switched around, which changed the entire tone of the story...

Maybe if I had never seen the original, I would have enjoyed the remake, but I don't think so--I think I had an idea of what was supposed to be going on thanks to the original.

22. I just saw "Silver City" -- Chris Cooper nailed Junior Bush in a manner
very much like JohnTravolta's take on Bill Clinton in Primary Colors. In the DVD extras, the film's creators stated that skewering Dubya was a prime motive for making the movie, and the fact that the 2000 election was rigged was in the script. Lots of jabs at the necons, actually.

Ghris Cooper really did a good job, though, acting like a vacant, manipulated simpleton propped up by some bad players, and Richard Dreyfus was also great in the Karl Rove role (though arguably more likeable).

I'll have to pick that up. That was an amazingly powerful film, one something that got me interested in US foreign policy when I saw it back in the 80s. And fairly accurate, too, unfortunately.

The making of Doc is about an hour long, truly fascinating. Also, Oliver Stone gives some great audio commentary, if I recall correctly. Well, worth it. :)

58. Did you notice the date "September 11" in "Enemy of the State"?
My friend noticed it the last time we were watching it. It's the scene where Gene Hackman is looking in the NSA files of Jon Voight's character (Thomas Brian Reynolds). Gene Hackman reads this "inside man's" birthdate: September 11, 1943! Then they show a screen shot and it shows the Birthdate and his area of expertease: Counter Terrorism. Freaky, huh? Watch it.

It's kinda like a documentary and by the time you're done you just swear that Tim Robbins is a frothing-at-the-mouth conservative who is close personal friends with ilks like Tom Delay and Rick Santorum. And how Bob Roberts basically rips off Bob Dylan in his neo-con folk sons is actually a bit of a hoot. But the person who steals the movie is Jack Black in his very first movie. It's a small part but the guy rocked

Those DUers who have already seen Good Night and Good Luck should consider seeing The Front, a 1976 comedy-drama about the blacklist, this time in the world of entertainment rather than TV news. I only saw it recently (at a special screening where the writer took questions) and was duly impressed. As it happens, the director, screenwriter, and several of the featured actors had all been blacklisted back in the day.
