Need help identifying a drug.
A friend of mine had surgery yesterday and was administered a drug that sounds something like "fenafill," I think. The nurse said that it is 100 times more powerful than morphine.

Does anybody know the correct spelling or pronunciation so I can do some web research on it?

Thanks,

Floog

6. I shudder to think
I had morphine in the hospital once. I went from "holy shit I'm dying" to "wow, I looooooooove this stuff" to fifteen hours of sleep in about five minutes.

2. Panafil.
It is used for postoperative wounds. Just a guess, but it seems to fit.

4. It's more than likely Fentanyl
Could be the one mentioned downthread, but Fentanyl is commonly used in surgical procedures. I know I've transcribed quite a few surgical reports (my least favorite job) that mentioned fentanyl.

7. When in the brain, Morphine is incredibly potent, but
it has great difficulty in crossing the blood-brain barrier, which makes it less effective, so my guess is the factor that makes the given painkiller more strong is an ability to cross the bbb quickly, which would give it a very small time from dose to influence, so whichever of the drugs mentioned above has the abililty to cross the bbb faster, or if you can't find out, which one has the faster time between dose and effect. (I mean out of the drugs mentioned so far). So when it comes to the specific drug, see the other posters. Hope I've given you useful info though.

What happened to your friend? (I'm a bit of a newb btw dear floogeldy, joined in Jan 28 of 06)
