2. I think it's symptomatic of a general decline in fundamentals.
Foul shots are nothing more than good technique and concentration. Too many players never learn the correct shooting fundamentals because free throws don't get on Sports Center as much as dunks do.

12. +1
as a former player, things have changed...You go out to the gym or playground where the young teens play, for hours all they will do is:

1. Dunk (or try to)
2. Shoot 3-pointers

The good, effective short-to-mid range jumper is a lost art as well

3. I don't know.
Pressure? Background visual distraction? You'd think, though, that for a shot that you can practice as many times as you want...

5. Because the players are human beings and not machines?

6. ahh bullshit
of course they're human beings

but everything is regulation, the floor, the ball, the net, the hoop, all the dimensions

there's no WIND

it's inexcusable to miss two out of two in my opinion

9. Who wants 100%? 75-80% would be nice as an average.

7. Are they?
I dunno; I haven't followed basketball in years, since they eliminated defense, passing and the traveling violation. But don't most guys still hit around 70 percent or so? That's a helluva lot better'n they hit from the floor.

8. Here's a weird thought.
If players always hit free throws, as I think the pros probably should, there would be no tension at all for TV.

10. They should never miss a FT or a 3pointer, for what they are paid

:P

what most excel at seems to be shooting off their mouths, giving dirty looks, rubbing their sweaty bodies all over each other and dripping sweat all over the court..
Brokeback Basketball, anyone:)
NO THANKS !!!

13. They're not, for the ones who are good at them. I watched George Mason
upset UNC today, and U. Conn beat Kentucky... in the Mason game, their players made a bunch of clutch free throws down the stretch, and they had a lot of guys who were not particularly good FT shooters (although the one guy who was 50%!! bricked his--I mean I don't even think Shaq is 50 percent, gimme a break).

Most of the guys who are guards and outside shooting type players make 'em like nobody's business.
