So, is there some sort of "Concerned Carnivore" movement around?
You know, for people who don't think it's inherently wrong to eat meat, but who'd like to see and end to practices like factory farming?

If one doesn't exist, we should start one :)

1. Factory farming has made meat affordable for most of us.

2. Have you ever gotten down
wind from one?I don't live near one but I drive by one. There is no way I could live anywhere near that thing, and they contaminated the ground water with liquid manure and all the people need new deeper wells.I don't know if they're worth cheap meat. It's one of those things that are great unless it's in your backyard.I can understand wanting cheap meat.

3. There are drawbacks to everything...
I'm saying if the major opponents of factory farming succeed in outlawing their streamlined practices you'll be paying aastronomical prices for meat or doing without.

10. Govt. subsidies and free land to graze on
have as well. None of it's right, nor necessary.

12. I'd be willing to pay more for meat and eat it less often
if it would mean eliminating or reducing factory farming.

21. I'm willing to pay more for meat
and get better quality, AND eliminate ecologically bad and inhumane practices

I consider meat to be a seasoning that you add to your basic staples of vegetables and grains. If the price is too high, you eat less and enjoy it more.

Man (and woman) were never meant to consume large steaks as part of their regular meal

Think stir-fry, or pasta with meat sauce, or most stews. A little bit of meat to add flavor and some nutrients, with a lot of grains and veggies.

4. No, you are either with the vegans or against them.
If you don't think it's inherently wrong to eat meat, then you are evil and there's no difference between you and Bush.

8. I'm a vegan and I don't think that way.
Maybe it's SOME vegans (or some raw foodists, or some vegetarians, or some buddhists, or some essenes, etc.)...

23. I don't know who you've been talking/listening to

But it's not anybody I know. While I don't eat meat because I don't believe in killing animals, I don't berate those who do eat meat. Yes, I would prefer that no animals die for consumption purposes, but I'm no radical nor do I prostelytize about vegetarianism.

7. Uhm,... "carnivore"?
Anyone who tried to live as a carnivore would be dead in a matter of months.

We're omnivores, not carnivores.

You can vote with your dollars pretty easily these days by buying eggs from cage free hens, free range beef, etc. I try to do this.

14. There's a lot of talk, but no "movement" per se that I know of.
We spend BIG bux to buy humanely-raised meat (and as locally as possible). We do think it's important, if you're gong to kill an animal, to give it as good a life as you can before you kil it and eat it.

Tastes better, too.

16. Sign me up. I love eatin' meat!
But make the farms a little more quality-driven and all the money needed for antibiotics being pumped into their tiny gross pooped-up pens would be saved.

Sheesh. Corporations claim to thrive on ideas, but I'm sure there are 500 patents about that aforementioned concept already waiting to be cashed in on.

18. I think if people read this:
...maybe things would be different if we have an attitude of "just because I CAN do something doesn't mean I SHOULD" :

1. The Earth is our Mother,
care for her.

2. Honor all your relations.

3. Open your heart and soul
to the Great Spirit.

4. All life is sacred; treat all things with respect.

5. Take from the Earth what is needed and nothing more.

6. Do what needs to be done for the good of all.

7. Give constant thanks to the Great Spirit for each new day.

8. Speak the truth; but only of the good in others.

9. Follow the rhythms of nature; rise and retire with the sun.

10. Enjoy life's journey, but leave no tracks.

Please consider your actions have impact on our Earth-- and that includes the choice to eat meat.

20. To actually answer your question, yes
there are groups of farmers and consumers in almost every state working on this issue. Here is a website to get you started:
