What's one (1) thing that really irritates you?
One (1) thing that drives me fucking nuts is when someone spells out a number in writing, then follows it by putting the number itself in parentheses. Do they think I can't fucking read? If I couldn't, then the number in the parentheses wouldn't MEAN anything to me, would it, since I couldn't relate it to the text? This may not actually be my number one (1) irritant, but it's definitely in the top ten (10), or maybe in the top five (5) or three (3).

If I only see this one (1) time a week, it's bad enough. But there have been times when I have read it seven (7) days in a row, which is about six (6) more than I need to get annoyed.

I hope I get at least thirty (30) responses to this post. Fifty (50) would be even better.

1. One (1) thing
sometimes, in legal proceedings, it's almost a given.

Just saying, and giving my two (2) cents worth.

10. Do you have even one (1) idea why that is? Your two (2) cents are
appreciated, but I wonder if anyone (NE1) knows where the habit started, and why.

22. Having worked with a LOT of lawyers, yes, yes I do.
It started because I think overstatement of the obvious, and the restatement of things plainly set forth becomes an integral part of the legal process.

2. Well, the two(2) things that really irritate me are when people
don't read the main post, just the header, before posting, and then wank on about something that has little to do with the title... eg."Why one thing? Why not many *giggle* I'm so clever" although this is kind of acceptable in the lounge since we're all looners, in GD it sucks. SUCKS. The rest of my life isn't annoying in the slightest, I'm pleased to say... no really I don't get irritated at all!
(I'm not sure if you're out there, but if you are, a big thankyou to random fluctations in the quantum continuum.)

5. Stupid people.
How to describe this... I guess I should say "uninformed and don't care" people. That infuriates me, and maybe it shouldn't. But I seriously know people who don't know that Hawaii's not in the Caribbean....that a Senator is in the Congress....who the Beatles are.

I kind of feel that, as an adult, there's a certain level of pop/political/current event knowledge one should have. And I don't set the bar high by any means, you can't know everything--but there are a number of people who are almost criminally clueless. And don't feel bad about it! :grr:

Last place we lived, every house had a driveway, but some people parked on the street anyway. and not because the kids were playing basketball in the driveway at the time; they did it every day.

I can't understand why. I'd NEVER want to leave my car in the street where it could get run into instead of tucking it away in the driveway.

32. The thing that bothers me
about it that their are about 5 houses on our street, including mine, that don't have driveways and all have cars. Add to that during the evening, some of the parking on the street is used by people who dine at the Japanese restaurant down the street (which doesn't bother me). What kills me is that these people had one of their cars clipped by a drunk driver about 10-15 years ago.

than to tear down other people. This little town is full of people who spend much of their time gossiping, poking their nose in other peoples' business, and speading it as fast as they can. Of course, they avoid anything positive, and focus only on someone's faults, failures, or misery. Many of these are older people, retired, who have nothing to do with their lives. I wish to hell they'd get off their asses and devote their gossip time to do something positive for other people.

This kind of behavior, sadly, is often seen here on DU, too. :(

59. The one (1) thing that annoys me most?
Probably litterbugs. I get so annoyed when I see people just drop their crap on the ground, often within spitting distance of a trash can. :grr:

A woman I know at work did that just the other day - pulled the cellophane off her cigarette pack and dropped it on the ground roughly two (2) feet from a trash can. I said, "HEY!!!! PICK THAT UP!!!!" and she did, explaining as she did so that she "never throws big stuff on the ground but that was just a little thing." :wtf:

So I got up and pointed to the receipts littering the ground and the cigarette butts and the bottle caps and all the other crap and said, "Yeah, and THERE'S a little thing, and THERE'S a little thing and THERE'S a little thing..." and as she walked away, I hollered, "AND DON'T THROW YOUR CIGARETTE BUTT DOWN EITHER!!!"

I think she's afraid of me now. O8)

64. People who say "nine-one-one" when they mean 9/11, as in
"Fahrenheit nine-one-one." What IS that?! You can't distinguish 9/11 the date and historic event from 9-1-1 the emergency phone number?
:grr:
lol

70. Telemarketers who call during dinner. I HATE that!
well, ANYtime, frankly, is annoying.

Lately, their methods have gotten even trickier.

We've got caller-ID and pretty much screen all of our calls. If a call comes through with an "UNKNOWN NUMBER" on the led screen, chances are it's a telemarketer and we let the machine get it. If a call comes through marked "PRIVATE NUMBER", it's usually a friend and/or family member and we'll pick up.

Well, twice recently I've picked up a call thinking it's a family member, and it's been a telemarketer. Somehow they've managed to have their calls be disguised as a "PRIVATE NUMBER", so that it fakes us out and increases their chances of actually getting through to people.

:grr:

I know these people are just doing their jobs, but I still find them really annoying.
