I am SO DAMNED PISSED at Winbook!
In November, I bought a laptop from them for around $560 or 570 after $150 rebate. By Mid February, it had already broken. The power wouldn't come on anymore. Besides that, it already felt like a piece of shit because the hinge covers kept popping off and there was something rattling around inside it.

I figure no worries, it's under warranty, right?

Well, the assholes say that there was a residue in it from a spill, and I absolutely SWEAR I have never spilled on it! I don't know how the hell this residue they say they have photos of got in there, but I only had the piece of crap for a few months, so I think I'd remember if I'd ever spilled on it!

So, they want $389 to fix a $560 comp. So I say forget it, send it back. In order to do that they say it will cost me $129 for the diagnostic work and shipping. After ranting at a supervisor, I got him to drop that fee, but now I have to decide if it'a worth paying $45 for shipping only when the repair he says I need is a motherboard.

I guess I'm just screwed and can look forward to not having a computer for at least another 6 months while I save up for one again.

1. Pay the $45 and get it back
you may be able to find someone locally to fix it. If you don't, they'll just refurbish it and sell it to another unfortunate soul. Have you checked the computer forum?

5. They said they were going to send me a release form
to permit them to destroy it. I said, "Might as well, since it's a piece of crap anyway!"

No, I haven't checked the computer forum. My main goal was revenge, and I figured I'd get more traffic here. If anyone who sees this here or elsewhere, or gets my email thinks twice about buying a winbook, at least I'll feel like I negated any profit they made off of me!

2. Ouch...
A fried motherboard is what spelled the demise of my Toshiba. The cost is too expensive to NOT justify buying a new one. The cost was going to be over 500$.

I wish I had made the switch to Mac like I've been intending for years.

That would be my suggestion. Prices have come down. My friends all have them and are very satisfied.

Wish I had a spare to send ya.

I think the computer companies know they got us by the short and curlies. To not have a computer is to be grossly out of date with the rest of the world.

3. You'll have more responses to this thread
if you post it in GD with an all caps heading: DON'T BUY WINBOOKS!

(reference to yesterday's Dell thread in GD)

Sorry about your problems with them.
