Norton Security SUCKS!!
Edited on Tue Mar-21-06 10:32 PM by Blue_Roses
:argh:

What a pain in the ass! Is there anything better than this crap? I have been fighting with it and even went so far as to uninstall and reinstall it to get it work better. Since that didn't work, I called and was connected to INDIA customer service. I couldn't understand a damn thing they said and they were rude when I asked them to repeat what they had said.

:argh:

1. You could always go free (AVG Anti-virus Free from Grisoft)
It's what I have on my wife's laptop. I had a problem with Norton, it got buggy, and I uninstalled it - bug went away. I installed that and never had a problem since. Mind you CA's antivirus suite seems to work better for me. (got a free year's trial subscription some time back with Microsoft). From experience either of these are fine:

http://free.grisoft.com - for AVG free (no $$$!)
http://ca.com/store/home/us/hp1/ - for CA's products (sorry that's $$$)

Mark.

3. Never had a problem with it.
If you got a broadband connection it's nice enough. It likes updating the virus definitions daily... so on the PC I don't use frequently I am often spending a few seconds downloading new definitions.

However this is good only for antivirus. If you need a firewall then ZoneAlarm Free is OK - CA's firewall is based on their firewall.

Whichever way you go, all the best!

Mark.

4. Their quality has been going down for years.
Nice to know that "American" John W Thompson has seen fit to worsen an already bad PR problem by offshoring. :dunce:

(sorry, he's the same twit who killed IBM's OS/2 when he was head of its marketing division...)

6. I got rid of it and zonealarm completely and use AVG for free. So far,
we're good.

Both were causing far, far too many conflicts.
