The article is too short to post a snip, but you can see it here.

1. 20 beers and under is perfectly understandable
He was saving the last four in the case for the road.
What kind of police state exists in Germany?
Was Hitler's frozen head thawed out and now he is back in power?
I just pray that Nazi attitude does not take hold in this country.
Oh, that's right. It has.

2. Sheesh. I wouldn't be functional after 20 beers!
People like this scare the carp out of me - I hope he stays off the roads in Germany, and NEVER makes plans to visit the US for a driving tour.

You need a record with at least drunk-driving on it to be anything in the local conservative party.
Honestly; several conservative (state and/or ex)ministers killed someone while driving drunk here .

The head honcho of the Oakland County (Michigan) Republicans, L. Brooks Patterson, got pulled over for DUI weaving down the Dixie Highway about two months ago. One OC sheriff deputy drove him home, another drove his car home. No tickets were issued.
The press found about it (I saw it on the Detroit FOX station) and there was hell to pay -- one deputy was suspended.

9. Here is nice list of accidents etc. involving (RW) politicians
Edited on Mon Jul-28-03 07:34 PM by Kellanved
It is not even complete, I know of at least two other (recent) incidents.
I do not know a single one with a liberal or green politician.

Sorry, German:

6. Ban him for 5 years and lock him up for 2, if he reoffends then shoot him
OK, maybe the shooting is a little harsh, but I have NO time for drunk drivers - it is 100% inexcusable to drink 20 beers and then go to drive a car.

I would suggest a 5 year driving ban and 2 years in prison for a first offence of this magnitude. Make him retake his test and undergo counselling on his release, so he can understand the gravity of his offence. If he reoffends, then lock him away forever or cut off his legs....

Seriously, drink driving on this scale is akin to walking around a shopping mall waving a loaded gun around and pulling the trigger from time to time...it's only sheer chance if nobody is killed.

8. That's about what he can expect (minus the shooting)
Edited on Mon Jul-28-03 07:35 PM by Kellanved
His insurance will demand 5000€ policy fine.

His licence will be voided; he will only be allowed to get a new one after passing a psychical examination (MPU,"Idiotstest") with at least 9 months without driving.

Seven points (A (Edit)concept; you have points on your licence. If you get too many it will be voided)

He will have to pay his wage of 30 to 60 days.

Besides: drunk driving is a felony; a judge will decide what will hapen to him besides the things above.
He might even end up in prison.

10. We have a points system in the UK and Australia too......
although drunk driving in the UK will often lead to an automatic ban, depending on severity and circumstances.

11. I did not know that; THX
And yes, drunk driving with more than 0.05% is auto-ban here too.
