Elderly, Sick Panda rescued at construction site...

AN elderly sick giant panda has been rescued by farmers in Baoxing County of Southwest China's Sichuan Province, local forestry authorities said yesterday.

The 15-year-old female panda is out of danger, but will need a long time to make a complete recovery, local panda experts said.

"After all, in human terms, she is like an old woman in her sixties," said the experts.

The sick panda was found at a construction site last Friday afternoon, and was sent to Fengtongzhai State Natural Reserve, a wild habitat for endangered species in Baoxing.

For all you panda people out there. I've been donating regularly to a couple of preserves ever since falling in love with panda cam. This is a great story.

2. NO, you're not the only panda person out there...
Thanks for posting this story. I just wonder how in the world an elderly panda came to be roaming around a construction site? Aren't they supposed to be in zoos? Poor thing, she had to be sick and scared. At least she's now at a wild life reserve, where she can happily and safely live out the rest of her days!

4. Not the only panda lover
Just the only one awake so early.

Thanks for sharing this MrsG. Poor ladypanda, I hope she enjoys the reserve they send her to.

6. Awwwww. I had no idea they had such a short lifespan, if 15 equates to 60
-something. I'm glad they were able to rescue her. :hi: (I'm never on at night these days... but still a panda fan.)

8. Those who save the life of one panda save the lives of the entire world.
To paraphrase the Talmud.

9. When I think of all the sick and elderly animals being pushed out of
habitats because of Construction...I just get so sick at heart. It's not only our animals...it's our people.

Heard on NPR about an elderly woman thrown out on the street by a hospital in Los Angeles that's under investigation for "dumping" patients who were homeless back out in the street. A Rescue Mission found the woman wandering around in a hospital gown with the slippers they give you in hosptitals...and she didn't know where she was. The hosptial called a cab...to drive her around the block to dump her.

Your post brought that to mind. Bringing Democracy to the World when folks can't even take care of their own.... How sick and cruel can it all get...I don't know.

At least your post shows that some folks still care. If it was here in Bush World they would have bulldozed the Panda as an "Obstructionists" to a work site. :-(
