Stupid trend that drives you nuts?
For me, it's those damned walking sticks when used in urban areas, usually by west-coast baby-boomers. You never know when you have to jump over streams or fend off bears downtown, I guess.

It looked pretty damn stupid in the early 1800's when it was first done.
But at least the damn jackets matched the style.

Oh well...fashion is a vicious cycle that only seems to repeat itself.

Crazy, isn't it?

to make a preemptive lane change ... I will make a lane change when it is in my best interest and it is hypocritical of you to object... furthermore, in fact, I am only reserving or rather restating that right as it has always been my long standing policy from the very beginning, as I have always maintained that inherent power as a driverly individual.

BTW, Why do you hate America?

I don't think some parents see what I see- pedophile's dream! I work in a profession where we come across pedophiles lurking outside our schools or, at times, are in our student's families. I am always on the look out. So, when this word across the ass thing got trendy, I just cringed.

113. And if you think about it, a big long word across the ass says big.
Princess is eight letters. Babycakes is nine letters. Sweetheart is ten letters.

You'd think these girls would have realized that the more letters, the bigger it makes their asses look.

If you want people looking, should not you put a short word there?

It doesn't make you feel as old when you have a cane that looks fun or snazzy or adventuresome. I'm no outdoorsman, but my cane has a shiny silver top and almost looks like a decoration instead of a thing to keep me from falling down.

I like Singapore's and China's approach to spitting; it's punishable by imprisonment, because of the very real risk of spreading TB.

101. My thoughts exactly!
I never ever saw people (of any type) spit in public in my like until the last couple of year. EVERYONE seems to be doing it. It is so fucking disgusting. And there were legitimate reasons for outlawing this type of behaviour... sanitary reasons. People walk through the spit, then take off their shoes (their hands probably touched the bottom of the shoe)... next thing you know, you've got a TB epidemic.

God forbid anyone should have fun in a way you don't like. Isn't it the Republicans who were supposed to be regulating who has fun doing what, when it otherwise harms no one? So you might have to see someone's butt in spandex. Don't like it? Don't look. Don't like bike pants? Don't wear them.

This site gives some pretty good examples of what not to do.

Here's a perfect example of someone overkilling the graphics at myspace.

85. Better that everyone in your office has a phone that rings the same
It's much funnier when everyone in your office has the same make and model of phone, that has the same four free tones on it. That way, when you're having a general meeting with 25 people in one room and someone's phone rings, everyone has to look at their phone to figure out whose is ringing. That makes a lot more sense than spending a few coins on a tone that's more distinctive, so that you can tell when the ringing phone is yours.

60. Cell Phones!
There is a reason phones came in booths people.

Some people use them wisely. However, most people talk loudly ANYWHERE while ignoring real life going on all around them. They drag on folks time spent in line at the check-out. They distract the talker while driving or even just walking through a store. Bumped into by someone at Costco? It was probably a cell phone talker. Someone pull out right in front of you on the highway? Surprise surprise- they were talking on a cell phone.

Leave the phone in your car and act like a human being for the 15 minutes you will be away from your phone. Please!

105. LOL - remember when you were a little kid and your mom
would run into a friend or acquaintance at the grocery store and..."Yak, yak, yak, yak" while you stood around getting bored and not able to interrupt? Now the poor kids have moms with the capability, in a little portable box the size of a ....cell phone, to have a conversation with any of a number of friends at any time.
( Even if you were right in the middle of talking with mom when her friend calls.)

67. Rejecting science
Not simply questioning science and technology-that's actually part of the scientific method. I'm talking about the trend now to pick and choose what science is acceptable in accordance with someone's beliefs. Science works because (for the most part) it uses the scientific method. Therefore you can't take some scientific aspects and throw out others just because you want to. If the method works, it works for everything.

83. Just the other day here the phones thing came up
It went something like "Who needs two (or more) phones, pagers, etc. hanging around their belt? NOBODY is that important!!" Hm, let's see, your average database or network admin who can't use the work phone for personal calls, doesn't get the work calls on the personal phone, and whose week it is to carry the oh-shit pager just might have a legitimate reason! I don't exactly think it's too cool to walk around town looking like The Phoneslinger at best and Batman at worst with all these gadgets, not to mention that it makes my pants want to fall down, but it's part of my job. I really don't need some pompous asshat accusing ME of being pompous because of the tools I have to carry as part of what I do for a living. Makes me want to shake my fancy cane at someone.

I've worked with some high-end producers, and it seems the bigger you are, the less you need a cellphone. Speilberg? James Cameron? Al Ruddy? Stephen Cannell? Chris Carter? They don't carry phones/pagers.

That's why the good lord invented "assistants".

92. Any trend that upholds the myth of authenticity
Edited on Fri Mar-24-06 09:44 AM by izzybeans
Indie rock fans are my favorite punchline. Indie rock shows are hilarious. Strike the Indie Rock Fan-pseudo thinker pose and think to yourself "Is this band original? I just can't tell. They kind of sound like the Stooges, but does that make them too much like the Strokes. Hmmm. I'll just sit here and stare silently while I pass judgement on these people in front of me. When the song is over I'll act too hip to clap or dance. Do you like how I broke my Chuck Taylor's in. They're so old. Nobody wears them like this."

By the way this post was made from a position of total authenticity and orginality. So much so that I wear black pumas instead of black chuck's. You see now that's hip. ;)

116. People carrying out in person transactions while talking with someone else
on their cell phones.

I'm seeing this more often.

I deliver pizzas.

I ring the bell.

They answer the door, pay for the pizza, and close the door, all while never stopping yakking on the phone.

Can't they just say "Someone's at the door, I'll call you back"?

I've even seen people stay on their cell phones while paying for things at counters.

Can't they hang up, even for a moment?
