Poll question: How far is your one-way commute to work each day?
My one-way commute is soon to be 45 miles. Luckily, I drive a Honda Civic and I will be reimbursed for the expense.

2. My commute is measured in hours, not miles.
I'm in NYC. I only commute about 10 miles, but it takes 2 hours and 10 minutes each way, on average.

18. 5 miles of that is Harbor.
It would be a long, long walk. :P

My Mom lives in upstate NY and complains horribly about the traffic if her commute is longer than 15 minutes. That kills me.

19. Well I work from home now
But I know the city commute well. One place I had to walk and take a bus for 15 minutes to reach a train that took 45 minutes then a second train for 10 minutes, capped off by a 15 minute walk...With no traffic at like 3am you could drive it in about 10 minutes...

Meanwhile my mother in law would bitch when there were more than 2 cars ahead of her at a stoplight as 'traffic'...

I'd love to work from home. But that's not going to happen.

25. Envy Away
It's just so much better in so many ways. There are things I miss about that commute and working in an office, but I wouldn't go back.

No daily train ride to drink my coffee and read the paper.
No 'work buddies' to go grab lunch with.

on the plus side I can wear my pj's all day or take a shower at 2pm if I feel like it, not to mention getting to spend a hell of a lot more time with my daughter than I would if I were commuting.

I'm trying to atone for all the years of 40 miles each way.

Unfortunately, the pay is also proportional at the moment!

By bike. Though coming home, plowing icy headwinds, it sometimes feels like 6000.

17. Twenty six miles one way
And this is what I do it with, at least when the temperature is above freezing.

A Bajaj motor scooter. Gets 100 mpg, travels at 55-60 mph. And I love riding the thing, makes my commute into a fun experience.

Really couldn't stand living in an urban area anymore, so moved out to the country two years ago. I've got twenty acres, and am working hard to make it a working small farm. Hopefully I'll be doing well enough in a few years to give up the day job and work the farm full time.

21. Takes 15 minutes in the morning 25 in the evening
Because more traffic lights are on. I live in the bigger city in my area but work in the smaller one next door so I'm always against traffic. I like it.

22. Other:
25 miles Monday - Friday to Job #1. Then 36 miles Monday - Friday from Job #1 to Job #2. Then 65 miles every Saturday to Job #3 part 1, and 110 miles every Sunday to Job #3 part 2.

But that's only the 'to' part. There's also a certain amount of 'from.'
