TiVO and how I may kill it
We finally installed the TiVo we got. I was quite used to the OnDemand digital DVR even though both have an aggravating delay when switching channels (most noticeable during football season when you are trying to watch 3+ games at the same time) I had even succumbed to the remote. My Zenith TV came with the single greatest remote ever devised which should be the model all systems use but that isn't important right now.

What is important is how screwed up TiVo thinks my taste is. I have to say that I have completely gotten out of the habit of watching 4 shows at a time (one documentary, one network show, one sports event, and usually some blabbering head news show) since we got married 3 1/2 years ago. TiVo would probably blow up if I did that.

Anyway here are some of the shows that TiVo has recorded for me.

Golden Girls
Becker :grr: this one really pisses me off I HATE BECKER!!!
"The Proudz" (toon) NO IDEA WHAT THAT IS.
Kim Possible :wtf: we don't watch kid shows yet. The baby is getting a proper TV education.
Will&Grace rerun-Have I EVER watched that show more than is necessary?
Worlds Funniest Animals - Watched one episode maybe 4 years ago and why I don't know.
Martha- I had never even seen one. I cut that off real quick like.

This is weird. We set up the Seasons pass for:
The Daily Show
The Colbert Report
Gilmore Girls (late night retelecast on the NBC affiliate)
and Lost

Where in the WORLD does TiVo get this from? I  all the ones listed above. Hopefully this won't happen again.

I can only imagine what that machine is doing right now.

TiVo owners does this stop? Does it learn?

BTW the info on shows sucks and there is no way to easily check if it will be shown at another time or if the next week's show is a rerun. I heard such great things about TiVo but that was mostly from people who don't know enough about TV to stop it from becoming the useless dribble it has become.

2. LOL! You can turn that stuff off, you know

  You can turn off the suggestions and just record the things you want it to. I had to do the same thing when I first got mine.

Go to the main menu and look for preferences (I think) and look for "record suggestions." And switch it.

But I still vote  for stuff I like.

Oh, I have been known to record two things and watch a third.  I never have to surrender to network time wars again!

3. Yeah about the recording
I tend to set shows to record just really as a reminder (the DVR had that option REMIND TiVo doesn't) and last night whilest watching Lost I flipped over to that horrid Talent show thing to see who got booted (Chiken Little boy who looks weirdly like Rudy Guiliani) and it said that that too was being recorded.

I like watching recorded stuff while I record so I can skip commercials. I have to say that TiVo is great for skipping commercials-it goes back to the end of the commercial when you hit play.

6. it's a strange program
but you just got it, right? give it some time to learn your preferences.

of course, I have a friend who made the mistake of falling asleep in front of her TV last month. Went to one of those "no down payment' infomerciascams. for the last two weeks, it's been recording all of them. and there are a lot.

8. I've often wondered if TiVo takes money to
'over-promote' certain shows... Even if it doesn't fit your profile.

Either that, or the semantics of their recommendation system sucks. But, if the tinfoil hat fits... :)

13. Becker is a good standby show...
if NOTHING ELSE is on, he always seems to be, and it's good for a half-hour of distraction, anyway.
