And it will always be said with derision and contempt and a sense of having faced the abyss in ways that no human being should have been able to.

We will refer to the Dubyas in ways that people don't even refer to the Great Depression or the Holocaust, because the Dubyas will also be looked back upon with great, soul-freezing shame, because the Depression came from without, and the Holocaust was enacted on others, while the Dubyas were self-derived and self-inflicted.

This is now the title of a book I seem to have started writing without realizing it. I told a friend about the subject matter (this decade), and he suggested I call it the Dim Ages, which seems about right.
