I always (not just most often) take public transportation and get rides. Note that the public transportation option includes all forms (train, bus, subway.)

2. Public Trans in NEPA sucks.

Really the only form they have are busses and very few at that. It literally takes 1hr 15 min to get somewhere about 20 mins away because one bus makes the round to all stops. I could probably walk to my destination quicker.

3. I take the subway to work

4 out of 5 days. One day per week I work late, so taking the subway isn't the safest of options. Otherwise, I walk to the subway station, ride it, then take the shuttle to campus.

I live in "the Valley" and work in downtown Los Angeles.

I've also been known to take the subway to go to the movies or shopping, particularly Hollywood & Highland or other places where parking is scarce or ridiculously priced.

But I drive a car that gets high gas mileage, combine trips so as not to go out more than once and my job is only about ten minutes from home.

I will say that public transportation in this area is not very good. It's okay within an individual city but it's a sprawling area and if you live in one town and work in another, it's a real chore getting around. There is no real coordination between busses, light rail and other forms of public transportation - not like NYC where you have a beautifully integrated system and even from the suburbs it's easy to make it to and from work in the city in a timely manner.

I take public transportation to work (when I'm working) and almost everything I need is within walking distance. I only drive when I have to go out of the city for whatever reason.

I didn't always like it but now I miss it A LOT. The monthly metrocard is cheaper than gas. Ideally, I would like to walk to work every day but not living in a walkable city makes it hard. Cities should be designed for more walking.

I get to work by subway-- actually it's about a mile walk from my house to the T station.

For other stuff, I walk, bicycle, or drive, depending on how close it is and how much cargo I have to carry.

We had one weekend of bicycle weather so far. Hopefully it'll be nice enough this weekend.

Mrs. Squeech drives everywhere. She seems to think she's a suburbanite :grr:

I drive everywhere, mass transportation is pretty much non-existent. Theres some inside the city but even thats pretty limited. Before I lived here, I lived in Worcester, MA and did not own a car, but rather was easily able to use mass transportation to go everywhere.

Where I used to live it was possible to live without a car and still get around (even in a relatively rural area).

Now, I live in a medium-sized city of about 1/4 million people plus, and I don't have a single bus route within a fifteen minute walk away from our house.

Americans. Too wedded to their cars.
