Do you ever feel like pushing people?
I don't mean physically, I'm far to nice for that. I mean intellectually. I read some posts here, and other places, where I just want to tell the person...

"Think just a little harder, take that thought just a little farther, come on! Dig just a little deeper! There is more there, I know there is! Push push push, nudge nudge nudge, come on, there are really great things in your head, just a little more."

I feel like a high school english teacher, or a thought midwife. But I don't know if I'm successful or not. Please, tell me I'm not the only one who want more and better discourse!

(I don't know if this is the right place for this, haven't been around much in a while.)

3. Hi John
:hi:

I'm procrastinating, but I mean really. Brevity is the soul of wit and all, but there is so much more to be said. Most people will analyze and go into depth about what they say, but so often they need to be pushed there by good questions.

5. Yeah I know what you mean
I think I know what you mean by questions, got a question for you though, have you heard from Zack lately? I last saw him when us three and your crowd went to that protest. My first two semesters of college have been a real eye opener, again good to see ya.

2. I think some folks are afraid of sharing their ideas.
Fear can be quite crippling.

:hi: It's good to see you again.

4. Hmmm....
Well poo on that. They shouldn't have to be afraid of voicing ideas. People should be curious and friendly and discussion should flourish! New ideas are so much more interesting than old ones anyway.

7. I agree. But in a community like this where new ideas sometimes meet with
resistance, shall we say, it doesn't surprise me that people need to have things pulled out of them.

9. Its a damn shame
I would hate to think its inevitable. Its harder I suppose in large communities to have everyone be nice to new ideas all the time.

I suppose there is one upside to having to pull things out of people, you can get to know them as a person better, not just as another screen-name-icon.

10. That's certainly true.
However, I think it's the anonymity of the web that causes some people to behave like real assholes and ruin everyone's fun.
