"Fuck Bush! Our Student Loans are Funding Your Damned War!"
I heard this after a financial aid meeting yesterday.

People are dying. Our children will all have to pay for years.
But raising Student Loan interest to a uniform 8.7 percent can
make a College Republican curse Bush. :silly:

I didn't know whether cringe or laugh. It's interesting to see
the freepers pay, but it's hard to stomach writing a check every
month while knowing that it's a poorly hidden subsidy of Bush's
incompetence.

1. This is going to be REAL bad in the long term for America
There will be less doctors, scientists, engineers and teachers in the future while China and India turn out more and more highly educated workers. I saw on the news an outdoor classroom in India where the kids sat on dirt, wrote on small chalkboards and could read and write in four different languages. The kids looked about 8 - 10 years old.

The point, the poor invest what little they have in their future while America wastes all it's money sending it's future to die in a foreign country.

3. That's been going on for awhile.
I'm of Indian descent, and my parents, when they were growing up in the 1950s and 1960s, learned three languages: Hindi (national language), their specific "state" language, and English (universal language).

I imagine that regimen has only increased exponentially since then, and all the while, most Americans can't speak even two languages in the present day.

Or even one, their own native language. I myself am probably just as guilty with my spelling and grammer skills.
People bitch a lot about not being able to understand someone at a foreign call center while I have to compliment them as their english is better than my hindu.

5. True.
It's most distressing to hear teenagers speak. Obviously, many of them can speak intelligently, but hearing the average one on the street speaking in a language remotely approaching English is just sad.

BTW, "Hindi" is the language, "Hindu" is the person. I know that might have been a typo on your part, but I'm a nitpicky kind of person. Sorry!

:hi:

6. Not a typo, just un-or-misinformed
So I thank you for the correction :)

7. Hell, at least one American can't even manage English, and he's

the most visible face of the US.

My hubby's of Indian descent, too, and I've always admired his effortless fluency in both English and Hindi. Not only that, he's managed to learn some German as well for business and it's easy for him.

I've had nearly 10 years of Spanish, and I still feel awkward speaking with native speakers.
