Buck Owens dies at 76
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060325/ap_en_tv/obit_owens

LOS ANGELES - Singer
Buck Owens, the flashy rhinestone cowboy who shaped the sound of country music with hits like "Act Naturally" and brought the genre to TV on the long-running "Hee Haw," died Saturday. He was 76.

Owens died at his home, said family spokesman Jim Shaw. The cause of death was not immediately known. Owens had undergone throat cancer surgery in 1993 and was hospitalized with pneumonia in 1997.

His career was one of the most phenomenal in country music, with a string of more than 20 No. 1 records, most released from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s.

RIP, Buck! The streets of Bakersfield will be a little quieter without you...

1. Oh, no.
I say that out of selfishness because I loved Buck Owens. Safe passage, Mr. Owens, and thank you.

18. I used to see him off and on in Bakersfield
Always a nice guy.

I'm sure my old hometown is very sad right now.

2. Very sad. We're losing so many of the performers that I grew up with.
We used to watch Hee Haw a lot. Buck, you were cool.

3. Check this quote from the article
He also criticized the syrupy arrangements of some country singers, saying "assembly-line, robot music turns me off."

I remember watching HeeHaw as a kid, and I learned to appreciate good pickin' from Buck and Roy.

6. A personal favorite: "Love's Gonna Live Here"
Oh the sun's gonna shine, in my life once more
Love's gonna live here again
Things are gonna be the way they, were before
Love's gonna live here again

Love's gonna live here
Love's gonna live here
Love's gonna live here again
No more loneliness, only happiness
Love's gonna live here again

I hear bells a-ringin', I hear birds a-singin'
Love's gonna live here again
I hear bee's a-hummin, and I know the days' a-comin'
Love's gonna live here again

Love's gonna live here
Love's gonna live here
Love's gonna live here again
No more loneliness, only happiness
Love's gonna live here again
Love's gonna live here again

7. my fave:
Well I'll give you love
That's above and beyond the call of love
And I'll never ever make you cry
Yes I'll give you love
That's above and beyond the call of love
And love's something that money can't buy

Well a poor boy's chances for a pretty girl's glances
Are sometimes very few
Though I've got no money, if you'll be my honey
Here's what I'll offer you

Well I'll give you love
That's above and beyond the call of love
And I'll never ever make you cry
Yes I'll give you love
That's above and beyond the call of love
And love's something that money can't buy

We met by chance and I knew at a glance
That I'd found my destiny
Now I want to carry you off and marry you
If you will agree

And I'll give you love
That's above and beyond the call of love
And I'll never ever make you cry
Yes I'll give you love
That's above and beyond the call of love
And love's something that money can't buy

11. RIP Buck
I'm sure you'll be kicking back and remeniscing with Bill Woods and the rest of the folks who started you out in the business all those years ago. When you see Bill, tell him his great nephew says hello :P (or whatever relation it makes us if he's my mom's mom's uncle).

19. I remember Don Rich of the Buckaroos.
I went to grammer school with is his son. Don looked just like a friend of my family. One day Don took his son to school and my mom and aunt thought we was Kenny (our friend) and they were just yak! yak! yak! at him. Don just laughed and my mom and aunt were so embarrased they realizes who it was. I was hanging out with Don's son laughing at them.

26. Wow. Thanks for those links.
I was 13 years old and simultaneously a fan of John, Paul George, Ringo, Buck and Don. I've always loved the "pop" feel of the music Buck and Don were making back then. :)

29. I wish I could go home right now.
I know that there will be some wonderful tributes to Buck back home. I'd like to be a part of them.

My mom said he performed last night. I could kick myself in the ass for not taking the chance to see him. He performed every friday night at the Crystal Place in Bakersfield.

My guess is that there will be one hell of a show for Buck there real soon.

31. Why I love those videos . . . .
1. Those guys were good and apparently worked hard at their craft.

2. They (at least looked like) were having such a fucking great time while playing; smiling, laughing, and such. :)

23. You don't know me but you don't like me...
I came here in looking for somethin'
I couldn't find anywhere else
Well, I don't want to be nobody,
Just want a chance to be myself.

I've done a thousand miles of thumbin',
Yes, I've worn blisters on my heels
Trying to find me something better
On the streets of Bakersfield.

You don't know me but you don't like me,
You say you care less how I feel
How many of you that sit and judge me
Ever walked the streets of Bakersfield?

Spent some time in San Francisco,
Spent a night there in the can
They threw this drunk man in my jail cell,
I took fifteen dollars from that man.

I left him my watch and my old house keys,
I don't like folks thinking that I'd steal
Then I thanked him as he was sleeping,
And I headed out for Bakersfield.

You don't know me but you don't like me,
You say you care less how I feel
How many of you that sit and judge me
Ever walked the streets of Bakersfield

How many of you that sit and judge me
Ever walked the streets of Bakersfield...
