3. A couple years back, the Klan put flyers on windshield wipers all...

over Santee. The mall, the two high schools, city offices.... Thats when the names stuck.
Santee has been a hot-bed of racism for many years.

5. Well, good to know that I haven't missed anything by never seeing Santee

I had a once a year trip to SD for business and I would try to arrange my workload so that I could sneak over to Balboa Park most days for at least an hour before sunset. It's my favorite part of the city without a beach.

2. Yesterday we drove up to Lake Cuyamaca and Laguna Mountain via the

Sunrise Highway and the 79. It was absolutely spectacular, there is still plenty of snow on the ground, the skies were crystal clear blue and it was warm, probably about 60 degrees. It would be the same today, except there will be more people up there today because it's a weekend. But I still think it is the perfect time to go up there, snow still on the ground yet warm air... 120 miles round trip... here's a photo of the Sunrise Highway (not my photo though). The snow is no longer on the trees but there is still a lot on the ground.

But thats not such a bad idea. I havent seen real snow since 1979.

buy the National Forest Adventure Pass for $5 for a one-day pass if you are going to park anywhere along Sunrise Highway. You can buy it at the Laguna Mountain Lodge or the Visitor Center one block away.

Probably not as crowded as going to Mt. Laguna, and it's quite pretty up there when there's snow on the ground.

The roads tend to be dry, and there's the observatory to visit at the end of the drive.
