I made the mistake of wearing an orange T-Shirt (not apron, not smock) an ordinary orange t-shirt. It even had in BIG LETTERS silkscreened on it "Triathlon Staff". You'd think that it would have served as a CLUE that I didn't actually work there.

At least once every 5 minutes someone was asking me for help. (Possibly because the Home Depot in my home town is severely under-staffed.)

Annoying at first... then it got to be rather humorous.

But Tharesa enjoyed working at locally owned hardware store, but finally this store went out of business.

They're always like that. Staffing is the barest minimum to keep the place running.

God its hard to find anything in that place.

I had a flooring department associate (to be honest, one of the ones we hired about a month ago) come up to me the other day. Here's how the conversation went:

Flooring lady: "This customer is looking for the oak strips that go between a wood floor and a carpeted one. Do you know anything about those?"

Jim the Lumber Guy: "Yes, they're called transition strips. We sell quite a few of them."

Flooring lady: "Do you know where they're kept?"

Me: "Yes, they're across the aisle from the carpet display."

Flooring lady turns bright red at realizing she walked 700 feet out of her way for no good reason, because they're in her department...

I also have hardware department people ask for the random-orbit sander paper (it's right below the random-orbit sanders), plumbing department people ask for the teflon tape and garden people ask for shed floor kits.

"See, if ya MAKE more money, ya GOT more money to come in here and spend. If ya DON'T make more money, see, then ya DON'T have more money to come in here and spend." and thinking...'I wonder if I've made that simple enough for these bozos to understand? How the economy works and all?'

"See, the economy's doin BETTER. We don't think it's good enough yet, but it's doin better, see? The tax cuts are payin off. People have more money to come in here and spend." and thinking...'I wonder if they get it yet? Karl said I have to keep it real simple for these people.'

Bush is affirming his heterosexuality all this week. Earlier this week it was Nascar, today it's Home Depot. What do you suppose next week will be, the National Hockey League and the Natural Light brewery?

It's shitty beer anyway. Now if he went to the Rolling Rock brewery in Pennsylvania, that would be a problem, because then I'd have to stop Rocking it every weekend. And that would just be a terrible thing.

I drink it every weekend. Do not send Bush, Cheney or anyone else there. Send them to where they brew Mickey's brand Malt Liquor. That is a fate worse than death.

...but I had a bad encounter or three...or twelve...with Heffenreffer malt liquor. We dubbed it the 'Green Death'. Yeesh.
