How close are you to quitting your job outright?
How close are you to just walking into the boss, and saying, "Here you go, I quit?"

2. Sorry, but I just started a job
featuring full internet access and a half-hour reverse commute. Loving the extra sleep, using less gas, and visiting DU on my coffee breaks!

21. What is a "Reverse commute"?
That sounds sweet! I have never heard the term before. Its funny but I heard the term "MILF" from someone the other day and I didn't have a clue!

33. A reverse commute is when you go in the opposite direction
of the rush hour traffic. And it is sweet to snicker at all the cars being bumper to bumper!

35. I used to do that- 3:30 to midnight shift.
It was pretty cool to not have to deal with the "rush hour" traffic.

11. I did that very thing once
I ended up penniless, I lost my apartment, I had to skip out on some bills, and I had to leave the state.

It was the best decision I ever made- because of the challenging situation that resulted I ended up moving half way across the country and starting my own business. I now have new friends, a couple hundred clients who repsect and trust me, and I'm having the best time of my life.

Funny how things conspire to make you take the next step, even when you don't realize you need to take a walk....

13. Been there... 4 weeks ago. I leave mid-April...
Though I may do some consulting from home. Second time around with this company. 6+ years. IT ain't what it used to be. The whole profession seems to be filled with people who did not come up through the ranks, and feel like they are God's gift to computing, despite all evidence to the contrary. They read some trade magazines, and got into it during the dotcom craze. Our IT department(150+) is a wreck. Thank God I have a loving wife who'll see me through the transition.

But I finally found a great opportunity and I love my job now. I wouldn't be in it if I hadn't gotten out of a bad one though.

18. Am comfortable now, but I have been there...
The problem always seemed to be that, whenever in that "need to quit now" situation, I always had to get a lifeline to another job so I **could** quit!

I've wanted to walk, many times, but had to wait. However, in one case in particular, the waiting made the walking all the sweeter.

Hang in there, HughMoran! :toast:

24. Very soon......
I'm working a job that does not utilize my skills or education at all. I work for a boss who is not content unless they are in your business every minute of the day. It should be a low-stress environment - its not, by a longshot.

29. Am in a similar position right now
Micromanaged, not getting the respect I deserve, and not using my skills at all. Sucks! But it's temporary... I'm on the market again and optimistic. ^___^

I could do without the stress, but seeing as I just made a couple of good sized screw ups, I am just hoping I keep my job for the next few weeks. :(

32. Dang, I feel the same way.
Someone told me you have to practically show up drunk to get fired.

I like my job, but it seems like some idiot coworker always manages to screw up what almost ended as a perfectly good work day. They consistently make it miserable! :(

38. Depends on how the customers treat me.
If they are completely unreasonable and begin to get insulting - and I have it call after call after call after call... then heck yes I walk, close to quitting. However the people that you help and that really need it make my job worthwhile.
