Brainy math types sought here
Ok, this is one of those annoying emails you get from your friends, but having ZERO mathematical abilities, I find this fascinating. Maybe some of the more *astute with numbers* folks here can explain how this works. (And it did work, just for the record.)

OUT TO DINNER MATHEMATICS

This is pretty neat how it works out.

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST

It takes less than a minute.......

Work this out as you read.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would
like to have dinner out. (try for more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (Just to be bold)

3. Add 5. (for Sunday)

4. Multiply it by 50 - I'll wait while you get the calculator...

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1753....

If you haven't, add 1752..........

6.. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number.

The first digit of this was your original number

(I.e., how many times you want to have dinner out each week.)

The next two numbers are...

YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it IS!!!!!)

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2003) IT WILL EVER WORK

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would
like to have dinner out. (try for more than once but less than 10)

x

2. Multiply this number by 2 (Just to be bold)

2x

3. Add 5. (for Sunday)

2x + 5

4. Multiply it by 50 - I'll wait while you get the calculator...

50(2x + 5) = 100x + 250

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1753....

100x + 2003

If you haven't, add 1752..........

100x + 2002

6.. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

100x + 2003 - yob

or

100x + 2002 - yob

You should have a three digit number.

Yes, assuming 1 <= x <= 9 and x is an integer, and that you are less than 100 years old.

The first digit of this was your original number

100x appears as x00, where x is a digit.

(I.e., how many times you want to have dinner out each week.)

The next two numbers are...

YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it IS!!!!!)

Your age (yy) is a 2-digit number, so the number is xyy, where x is a digit, and y is a 2-digit number. The algorithm for determining age is (current year) - (year of birth) if you've already had a birthday this year, (current year) - (year of birth) - 1, otherwise. Notice this is exactly what we did in step 6.

THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2003) IT WILL EVER WORK

Yes, by adding 1753 or 1752. Next year, add 1754 or 1753.

1.Take your age
2. Multply by 2
3. divide by 2
4. The first 2 digits are your age! (if you are at least 10 and under 100)
