I had to deal with the biggest BITCH today at work.
I was sitting in the front, and it was lunchtime so pretty much everyone was out of the office, including the receptionist. This woman comes in the office, with her nose literally pointed towards the heavens, and she came up to me. I was sitting at the receptionists desk because I was filling out a tax form and my cubicle is way in the back and I was too lazy to move, plus, someone needed to answer the phone. Anyway, she came in, and she said "I was in here two years ago but I don't remember who I worked with. I am meeting some clients here". I went with the usual "Ma'am I can look up your agency in Act if you want me to so I can see if you can work with the same person". I thought I was being helpful and professional. She told me to say names of people who work there, and I went down the list. She slammed her fist down on the desk and screamed "I am not going to remember who the hell it was...I am just trying to be practical so you should just keep quiet and do some filing or whatever you are supposed to do". I am sure she assumed I was the receptionist, which in my experience is probably the most difficult job in an office. She said this in the bitchiest tone I have ever heard, and her facial expression towards me was as if I was a pinworm. I was in shock and told her firmly to have a seat and wait for one of the artists to come back from lunch. I went back to my cubicle. I don't know what happened after that. I work in ad sales and promotions, I am not the receptionist, but I cannot imagine why someone would look down on anyone who is. I am already buddies with the IT people and the maintaince guys. I certanly don't look down on anyone who works in the office, no matter what their position is.

It was just weird.

1. Too bad you didn't tell her all the cosmetic surgeons were
out for lunch, but when they returned one of them would be happy to help her if they could.

4. Gah
I should have said "I know you are in a hurry because you have to go to the gynecologist to get a tooth pulled, but no one in the design department is here right now"

5. We always think of that stuff after the fact.
I remember one time I was doing a retail job and a lady came in to complain about a ski packet promotion we were running with one of the local ski mountains. She couldn't get it to work her way so, but she kept asking me the same question a hundred different ways, getting more and more pissed at me when I continued to tell her it doesn't work that way.

Eventually, she was red in the face pissed, so I just stopped and stared at her not saying a word while she continued to rant. When I continued to not respond, just stare at her, she started to sputter and then totally lost her train of thought and finally huffed out of the store.

I use that technique now on assholes. It works every time.

7. OMG...Retail is hell
Edited on Thu Apr-06-06 08:16 PM by Sannum
I managed a store at one time, but I quit when (A): The store was robbed and I later found out that the owner of the company called and asked other employees if I was "trustworthy" or if I set the robbery up to go home an hour early and have the money in the register, and (B): When four paychecks bounced in a row.

6. I might have told her

"Why don't you come back some other time when it occurs to you who you want to see or why you came here?"

10. It amazes me that grown people act in this manner.
I always try to be kind to folks waiting tables, working retail, fixing your car or house, etc. These are the types of people they have to deal with all the time.

The jackass talking on the cell phone and tapping on his computer that holds up traffic, or the wenchbag putting makeup on going 15 miles below the speed limit in the left lane are the people who are their customers.

I seriously try to take this into account, and realize that folks are trying to make a living, and that in itself is honorable. If people want to be snooty, and unreasonably impatient, it truly shows more about them than the person they are snotting down their nose upon.

That old Phil Collin's song "Another Day in Paradise" comes to mind.

I sometimes wonder what good outcome people think they are going to get by being condescending and tarty. Most folks working with someone like that just want them the fuck out of there. Please, remove the painful stimulus!

I digress, I am truly sorry you had to deal with Her Highness of Bitchiness today, and it sounds like you handled it well.

14. "Sorry, I don't work here...
we're doing a tax audit and I'm waiting for the rest of the crew to get back from lunch. Why don't you come back in an hour when someone here might give a fuck about your problem."
