82 Year Old Ruins Perfect Driving Record By Driving Through Store

DAYTON | An 82-year-old Kettering woman who told police she'd never gotten a traffic ticket in her life accidentally drove through a plate glass wall at a United Dairy Farmers store Thursday evening, hitting two employees and injuring one significantly, police said.

Both employees were taken to Miami Valley Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Dayton Lt. Randy Beane said.

One appeared to have minor injuries but the other was in pain from leg injuries, he said.

Neither was pinned by the 1992 Buick sedan and the store was not crowded about 5:35 p.m. when the crash occurred, Beane said.

"It's usually a packed place," he said.

The woman told police she hit the gas pedal instead of the brake as she pulled her car into the parking lot of the store at the intersection of Woodman and Rainer drives.

Her car hit another vehicle and smashed through the glass, coming to rest in the dining area of the convenience store at 1666 Woodman, which has a gas station on the premises. Neither she nor her husband were hurt.

Beane said the woman probably will be cited for reckless operation and asked to retake a motor vehicle test.

UDF zone manager Dan Chambers said the store would close for a time.

"Hopefully, we'll get it up and running shortly," he said.
