Today would have been my mother's 82nd birthday.

She didn't see her 52nd birthday, and I miss her.

It would have been wonderful to have seen her grow old.

6. And I'm sorry for you.

We are luckier than some though. Indeed, ironically my mom was less lucky than I as her mother died when she was in her early 40's.

I thought my mother was being maudlin about it all when I was growing up, always reflecting on mortality, her own included. I never thought it would happen to her, and by extension, me. But it did, and now I know why she was how she was.
