13. He's right though they do look like Cronkite
I was cracking up over the thought of a manadee either crying over the JFK assassination or saying thats the way the cookie crumbles.

...on this administration, like Cronkite did on Nixon, which makes Cronkite look like a prince, in my book.

15. I thought it was Johnson
He said after the Tet that he thought we were now losing the war and Johnson supposely said if Ive lost Walter Cronkite then Ive lost middle America. My right wing international relations professor was bashing him for that and those who criticized the Vietnam War. Great class for informative reasons but I hated the biased crap. I wonder what animal hume would be.

16. It was both administrations. He started turning with Johnson, but it...
...was full-blown by the time it got to Nixon. Nixon considered him an absolute menace.

7. Thanks for this.
I'm glad to know where to contribute & help. These gentle, precious creatures do not deserve the terrible hand we've dealt them.

18. I agree. I went to a reserve in Florida one time....
Edited on Mon Apr-10-06 02:15 AM by Robeson
...where they were housing some manatees. They were big sweet animals, and very socialable. At feeding time, the custodians asked us if we wanted to go to the "salad bar" to watch them eat. We went over there, where they fed them heads of lettuce. They really enjoyed their "salad bar".

19. I'm going to be spending some time in Florida this year.

Maybe I'll swim with the Manatee up in the Banana River. :) I used to feed some that lived in the warm water just outside a power plant in southern Florida.

21. Ft. Lauderdale

An old friend from my college days is there.
www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x4841896

I called home when I stopped for gas this afternoon. It seems that he left a message for me several days ago so I returned his call from a rest area on the tip of the Jersey Turnpike. :)

23. I never forget the things I love. I was always too busy to swim with them.

Now I'm not. We'll rent a car and visit some of our old haunts while I'm there. We drove down to Florida twice while we were in school. Once was a camping trip with our 4 cats in a van we had converted together. He broke his foot while we were completing the conversion job but that didn't slow us down for very long. We went into KOA Campgrounds and slept together on a hammock slung between the back-door hinge and a tree. We were two crazy kids back then.

This will be a busy year for me. I'm still planning that cross country drive meeting lots of DUers along the way before fetching MissHoneychurch from the airport in September. I want another trip to Florida in the Fall before I give up my freedom for a short time. www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=4985709&mesg_id=4986625

I don't know if they will post this on the Greatest Page, because it's a Lounge post, but I hope it does. It's an important topic.
