Where do they get electric power to run the hatches computers, lights, etc?

1. I wonder that too

and if I was stuck on an island, I would try to research that among other things.

We know there's a cable that goes out into the ocean (both Hurley and Sayid found it last season) but no one thought to follow it in the water or even talk about it.

Notice that no one talks about seeing horses, polar bears, Walt talking backwards, magic food from the sky, the invisible beasty, the black cloud, and the fact that EVERYONE on the Island had a connection to the everyone else on the plane (Locke inspects Sayid's lost love's house, Sayid sits across from soldier staring at photo of Kate, Jack letting Boone and Shannon's dad die on the table...etc)

3. Some huge generator behind one of the walls in the hatch

They don't know how it works or how to get to it but it makes big, thumping sounds.
