Blazing Saddles was on last night...
...stumbled across the uncut, late-night broadcast on the CBC, after I got in from the gym.

Oh, my goodness, what a hilarious movie--I hadn't seen it in years!

So many consistently great lines, and entire scenes where I couldn't stop laughing.

Slim Pickens best work!

3. Have you ever seen the TV version where
they omit the fart sounds, yet their butts still raise up; that looks even funnier! I loved that movie...Heddy.

7. The TV verson has more scenes, too!
There's more scenes of Bart trying to subdue Mongo...

By shooting him with a cannon hidden inside a mechanical cowboy, and by tricking him into deapsea diving for treasure, and cutting off his air supply (as sign is lowered to Mongo from the ocean surface: "Addional Air, 25 Cents", and then we seem Mongo feeling for pocket change in his antique diving suit...

4. That is a great movie
I have a cousin who is rightwing, and seems to think that Blazing Saddles is in danger of disappearing due to "liberal thought police" because of how not "PC" it is.
To the contrary, it actually is a great movie because it shows how fucking stupid rascism is.

6. Fifteen's my limit on Schnitzengruben!
"What's a dazzling urbanite like you doing in a rustic setting like this?"

LaMar (signing up bad-guys): "And what bad deeds did you do?"

Bart (disguised as a Klansman): "Cattle rustling"

LaMar: "That doesn't sound very bad"

Bart: "Through the Vatican?"

LaMar: "Kinky..."

Also...

Waco Kid: "Bart! What are you doing here? They told me you were hung!"

Bart: "And they was right!"

5. I have a friend who saw Blazing Saddles at a theatre in Memphis
with her Yiddish speaking grandma...I have never seen it but I am told there is a scene entirely in Yiddish. Well, Lisa told me that her grandma was the only one splitting a gut at that scene. I am sure the other patrons wondered what she was laughing at.

Is it that funny?

I LOVE and I mean LOVE History of the World, Part I...

13. It was the "crossing the prairie" scene
Bart and his parents are at the end of a wagon train heading west when it was attacked by the Indians. The white settlers circled the wagons. Because Bart's family was black, they had to make their own circle, so you see this one wagon just going around in circles real fast.

The Indian chief and a couple of his lieutenants went up to investigate this weird thing. The Indian chief was Mel Brooks, and his tribe's native language was Yiddish.

Just the idea of a group of "savage Indians" speaking fluent Yiddish should be enough to have you rolling.
