I am pissed off. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I am pissed off!
Ain't I just normally so unflappable? :D

I found a dress for my daughter on eBay that I'd been looking for. The seller had a "Best Offer" option on it, so I made her an offer and promised that if she'd accept the offer, I'd pay immediately.

She accepted the offer on April 6. I paid for the item on April 6, following the instructions on her eBay store for paying by credit card through an online service (not PayPal).

I have an email receipt from the service, cc'd to her, dated April 6.

Today, April 19, I logged on to eBay to discover an alert placed on my account. This seller had reported me as a non-paying bidder, saying that I had neither paid nor made contact with her.

I tried to respond to the alert - eBay says I must choose one of its response options before April 25 to avoid a strike on my account - but the system isn't working. I keep getting a "Page Not Responding" notice. Okay, eBay - get your fucking system working so I can respond before the deadline! Don't tell me I have to respond and then make it impossible for me to do so!

I emailed the seller, both directly and through eBay, and forwarded her a copy of the email receipt I got from her stupid fucking credit card service. I asked her to clear up the matter. I'm just frosted over this. I'd been wondering why I hadn't received that dress yet!

I'm afraid now that I won't even want my daughter to wear the dress because it will be associated with so many negative feelings.

1. That stinks....
Have you heard from the seller yet? I hope she apologizes. I hope Ebay straightens everything out for you.

4. No, I haven't heard from the seller.
The dispute response system still isn't working on eBay, and I am growing increasingly frustrated. I realize I have several days to respond, but I am so very not pleased.

2. Did your credit card take the hit?
Meaning that if your credit card is showing payment, then obviously some "ghost in the machine" is having his/her way with the transaction.

Sounds like good evidence to present to the above folks...at least to me.

3. I haven't received the statement yet.
I can call and get a list of recent transactions, but the bill should arrive soon anyway.

5. Call them.
Don't wait for the statement.

That's your money, and your ebay rep.

13. Or you may be able to access it online
All my cards have options to pay or view my activity online. Good luck.

6. Frustrating!!
I hope it gets cleared up. Why wouldn't the seller email you to ask about payment rather than just telling ebay you'd never paid?

7. Hmm.

Does the seller have a lot of previous sales and a good "positive feedback" rating?

9. Yes. She's got a 282 positive rating and an eBay store.
I paid her through a web-based credit card service. I just went back there and checked the order number, and they definitely received my money.

Two freakin' weeks ago.

The email receipt I have has her email address cc'd on it.

10. Huh. Very strange.

Well, you might want to file a complaint with eBay on her for being a deadbeat seller. Forward a copy of your receipt for proof. That might get her attention.

11. As suggested, call the credit card customer service and get...
...confirmation that the charge went through to your account. Assume that nothing is confirmed until you know that your card account received the charged. There may be a fault on the sellers side. If the charge is there, then you may want to get the seller's contact info. Requesting the contact info will also reveal your info to the seller.

If you contact the seller, be diplomatic. You simply want the deal to be consumated. I suggest this because some sellers have an itchy neg feedback finger, and you just want to complete the deal and move on. I have had to really reign in the urge to say "why the hell didn't you just drop me an email if there was a problem". Some people just do not pay attention and do Ebay on autopilot or something.

As for Ebay and the dispute console, I just got to the pages to report disputes. Can you get there? Sometimes when using Internet Explorer, it will not refresh a page that it could not pull up, even if you hit refresh. To check, shut down the computer and reboot and try again. I'm serious.

Good luck. I know how frustrating this can be.

Ms. OR has a bunch of Betsey Johnson dresses she wants to sell on Ebay, but I have shied away from clothes. They are in good shape, but used and I am afraid that I'll get negged because something is not perfect. Much easier for me to sell autoparts and vacuum tubes.

14. UPDATE on this situation...
Edited on Thu Apr-20-06 09:33 AM by Left Is Write
The dispute response mechanism finally worked late last night. I also received an email reply from the seller, asking me if I had emailed her to let her know I paid. Why? Because apparently the eBay system or her "my eBay" or some other function indicated that I had paid with PayPal, and she doesn't accept PayPal. (Her exact words were "It said you paid with PayPal." Um, what said I paid with PayPal?)

Instead of filing a non-paying bidder dispute with eBay, if she had some indication somewhere (the mysterious "it" noted above) that I had paid, why didn't she email me and say, "I'm confused - I can't find your payment"?

I clicked on HER checkout link, I paid through HER credit card service. Perhaps SHE should do something about HER notification system.

At any rate, I received a notice from eBay this morning that the seller had informed them that I had paid and the dispute is closed. Graciously, they won't take any action against my account over this issue. :eyes:

15. Oh wow... she sucks!
That sounds frustrating as hell.

Two months ago I ordered a Roomba vacuum from some online place and paid through paypal. I didn't receive it after a few weeks, so disputed it with Paypal. They spent three weeks trying to get the money back from the seller (who never returned my calls or emails), then they closed it saying they couldn't get the money back. I went to American Express next, and four weeks after that, finally had the charge reversed. In the meantime, I went to Target and got a Roomba. Love that thing!

I love buying stuff online, but sometimes, it just plain sucks.

18. It's stories like that which make me wary of eBay.
it's never been my thing, to begin with, but I recently rec'd a $50 gift certificate, using PayPal, for eBay which I have to use up.

I am a bit daunted by the complexity of it all. Do I have to set up an acct, do I have to bid, can I simply buy the item outright? blah, blah, blah...so I sent Customer Service an email, with all my questions and the email they sent me back was, get this, 4 PAGES LONG! :eyes:

I kid you not.

Hope you get your situation with eBay all worked out. Is this that same pretty pink, 50's style, sleeveless dress you posted the other day? It was lovely.

:hi:
