Although I am only having one so the buck stops here. How is that Syrah? Never tried it. I am a big fan of petit syrahs and get some wonderful ones from my wine club but not so much syrahs.

I'm a philistine on wine (and a multitude of other matters) but this one struck my fancy.

Fun to be in a wine club. Have had me some good petite as well. Somebody told me that it's a different grape, but I was in no mood to pay attention at that point.

Got my back brace off this week so fortunately since the weather has warmed up I can wear cotton tops instead of large sweaters to cover the rigid brace I've been in. My doc says I heal faster than anyone he's ever seen. He did my back surgery a few years back...he can't believe I've taken no vicodin for this and worked almost every day. Come to think of it, I can't believe it either...in fact, this is the first drink I've had in months...amazing what a muscle relaxer alcohol is...today was only the second day without the brace and I was in the car all day...on the down side...I hope I don't throw up.

My mom is recovering yet again but has to use a walker and is on about 12 medications. I don't think she is long for the world, but given the issues we've had lately, it's been great to communicate and get them satisfactorily resolved. When she goes, I'll be complete and so will she as much as is possible. That is good.

but no serious drinking for a week or so. Instead, I'll listen to Irish punk rock drinking songs. :D

It doesn't make you trip. It's just different than regular alcohol. It's very clear-headed and motivated, even though it has a very high alcohol content.

I have had mescal which is alleged to have similar qualities but did cause me to projectile vomit

Physically, absinthe is kind of weird. It warms like whiskey, numbs your mouth like cocaine, and tastes like a slightly bitter Good & Plenty candy.

Now I feel as though I have not lived!

Big Red Cake

1 white cake mix
1 can Big Red soda
1 large pkg. strawberry gelatin
1 16 oz. pkg frozen strawberries

Frosting~
1 8 oz. Cool Whip
1 cup milk
1 small pkg. instant vanilla pudding

Method~
Bake the cake as directed on the box.
While cake is still warm, poke holes with the end of a wooden spoon.

In saucepan, bring to a boil;
Big Red Soda, gelatin and strawberries
Pour over cake

Let cool.
Top cake with frosting.
Keep cake refrigerated.

Mom had a heart attack...I had a car accident and ended up with a compression fracture in my spine...then mom was in kidney failure and now we're on the mend...it's all good

I'm glad to hear both of you are on the mend, but I am so sorry to hear that you've been going through that, and I feel so clueless and lame for not knowing or being there for you. :-( Please let me know if there is anything (belatedly) that I can do.
