Tossing stuff at Bonds? Unsportsmanlike or Justified?
Believe me, I'm no Bonds fan but I think throwing objects on the field is just stupid and unsportsmanlike.
I've had the pleasure of booing him when he comes up to the plate or limps around left field but the only thing I would throw at him is an insult about steroid use. But I've heard some people here in Phx say that to them it's ok to throw things at Bonds. I'm appalled.

Fan arrested for tossing object near Bonds
Odeen Domingo
The Arizona Republic
Apr. 18, 2006 12:00 AM

Mark Greggersen, 23, of Show Low was arrested in the bottom of the fourth inning Monday night when he threw an empty toothpaste tube near the feet of San Francisco Giants left fielder Barry Bonds.

Greggersen, who was sitting in Chase Field's left field bleachers, was arrested for disorderly conduct and was removed from the stadium, said Diamondbacks President Rich Dozer.

Greggersen was taken to a Maricopa County jail.

6. I agree it has no class
I remember when Chuck Knoblauch went from the Twins to the Yankmes. He had been moved from 2B to right field by the Yankmes, and people kept throwing crap at him. The umpires almost called the game and almost gave the Twins a forfeit.

36. How many have YOU been to?
First of all, you make it sound like Philly's so friggin far away. Newsflash - it's only a 2 hour drive.

Second, what does it matter if I've been to 5 games of 500? It's well documented. Most Philly fans not only admit it, but wear it proudly like a badge of honor. But if I have to answer, I'm not sure, maybe 8-10. Some of those were at the Vet.

Sorry - but you're going to have to do a lot more than act insulted to convince people otherwise.

Stay.Away. Go to Bawl'mer. No adult season ticket holders I know profess to wear any "badge of honor" about being rude.

I see 34 per season,on my plans.

Saw 47 last year.

And I do go to Baltimore. And now, I can stay right here in town, now that we've got a team. And being that it's an NL team, I probably won't be going to many more Philly games. So have fun. :hi:

Giant fans originated that practice during the 80's. My brothers lived in the Bay Area and were Giant fans. They spoke of this for years.

2. I don't like Bonds either...
but you wouldnt'see me throwing anything at him, just so i can prove a point, oh and then go to jail for a while, and pay a fine. I would be more inclined to "Boo him, and call him a effing Bum" from the stands every time he comes up to bat, and when he runs out into the field of play.....:)

So, i would call it unsportsmanlike if you throw stuff at "any" player, in any sport(except hockey, cause some guys just deserve having squid/fish being thrown at them)...:)

He didn't even play last night. Bad knees, bad elbow... and one hellofa bad attitude.
And he still hasn't hit a homer but he came close 2 nights ago. I'd hate to see him break the record.

BTW... do people really throw fish at hockey games?? I don't follow hockey so I've never heard of that.

BTW... do people really throw fish at hockey games??

Throwing octopi on the ice is a Detroit Red Wings tradition; the octopus' eight arms symbolize the eight playoff wins it used to take to win the Stanley Cup before expansion. Besides, everyone knows you have to keep sushi cold... :-)

A ticket doesn't entitle you to unlimited rights. Holler whatever you want, as long as it isn't personal, racial, etc. Boo to your heart's content. That's been part of the game since its inception.

But the second you encroach upon the playing field, with either your body or something projected from it, you blew it, bud. You're outa here. And if you throw something more deadly than an empty beer cup, your ass is in jail for ADW.

:grr:

I like what they used to do in Philadelphia. There was a small courtroom right in the stadium, and people who threw stuff or whatever were fined right there on the spot.

Not that such things often happen in Philadelphia... :eyes:

Sheesh...holler, heckle, deride all you want. But just because you bought a ticket doesn't entitle you to use any player as a bulls-eye. That's why the seats and the playing field are SEPARATED. Sheesh.

One burning question, though....an empty tube of toothpaste? WTF? What...this guy carries around toothpaste in his hip pocket?

Oh...and this, from the article, was just priceless:

"I just feel he cheated," Delaney said. "I know they haven't been able to prove it. But it's pretty obvious. I'm not big on him. And he's got a lot of records. I question his records. Other than that, I like the guy."

Good to know that other than the cheating...and the records...and the doubts...and the fact that he's not big on him...good to know that, other than that, he likes him.

Huh?

I'd like to know how he got it into the ballpark. 52. Baseball is not
a sport for audience participation on the field. The Mets fans that threw batteries and other things at John Rocker, the idiots that run out on the field and attack coaches, players or umpires, etc. should be banned from the ballpark for a substantial amount of time, if such is possible. I'd hate to see baseball become like some soccer matches, where the fans riot, people get hurt or killed, and the stadiums get damaged.
