3. My 91-year-old mother is with me.
We employ a caregiver for part of the day while I am at work. She is physically infirm to the point where she needs to use a walker, and suffers from chronic depression and an anxiety disorder. She reads. Gets hospitalized fairly regularly for dehydration and urinary tract disorders -- not to mention other, more serious ailments (had one-third of her colon removed 3 years ago).

5. We used the local Office of the Aging
At the county level, there is a wonderful person on staff to help Seniors find the resources they need and qualify for.

If your parent is well enough, a lawyer for estate planning is fantastic. The peace of mind my parents have is worth it's weight in gold. Each of the children have been given a responsibility from a durable power of attorney to health-care advocate.

Last Friday I was in the ER with Dad and knew exactly what his wishes would be, what actions to take and had the legal authority to do it if his emergency gone worse.
